Patriarchy or Matriarchy?

We don’t live in a patriarchy or matriarchy. Both men and women are equally allowed to participate in the political process.

Society is gynocentric however. We have many ways we favor women both by custom and under the law.

I think every society is to some degree a matriarchy AND patriarchy.

Acting like one gender has zero power is quite foolish.

Women can gain power simply by becoming someone's mother....the person who did the bulk of the child rearing and influencing of that child. She can often gain power over a man who is often obliged to provide for both her and the child, and he must meet several of her demands in the process. Plus, she tends to run the house.

Men have a less natural path to power and influence. He must attain wealth outside the home and then the only power he has in the home is by withholding said wealth.. but to what end? Let his kids starve?

And though men may attain high position, there are certain lines he cannot cross lest women, including his wife, rise up.

And that is how women got to be such a protected class. It began sensibly with women needing basic protections just for the children to survive. Men learned to acquiese. But women have been using that as a springboard to attain many more protections and powers than they actually deserve.

Now they want protections from things like being looked at in the office or the gym, and they actually get support for this madness...even when they wear the most eye-catching clothes possible.

They invaded men's work space and took away a key power men had. And now our wealth gathering is not appreciated because they too can go earn wealth....plus they totally diluted our earning potential by flooding the job market.

What have we got left? How is the west more patriarchy than matriarchy now?? I say its the opposite.

Patriarchy was never there actually. In the past life was very tough and men would do traditional mens role and women would do there role(Andrew Tate). It was a survival system Thats what i heard from a guy called Dr Warren Farrell who did a ted talk the boy crisis. He was a former feminist and then he understood the truth and left feminism. Now due to more emphasise on wealth the moral values are compromised. The corporates will never allow extreme feminism to die as they can get wealthy from feminism business. Because women spend more money than men and men also spend more money on women than on himself. Thats why feminine society is very rich. So if we can summarise its still not matriarchy, its the corporates who are ruling the west. They are just destroying and exploiting common people in the west and the whole world in the name of feminism. And the western corporates is fighting against religion and morality for their greed.

Ancient Athens and Rome were patriarchal societies where the average men had more rights, responsibilities and privilege than the average woman. Women were considered inferior and was subject to stay at home taking care of children while the men ran most of society.

This is ideology speaking not sense. Yes there have been patriarchal societies and if you cannot see that then you have blinders very on. There have been societies that wives were murdered when their husbands died. There have been societies that gang raped a woman when she refused to have sex. There are societies that killed women so men could have a ghost marriage. There were societies that crippled their daughters deliberately. There are societies were fathers/husbands could use their spouse and children as collateral for loans and so on.

Statements like the OP's is the same as the worst of feminism, grounded in emotion and prejudicism rather than empirically truth. It makes people not take us seriously because they can point a finger at made up bunk rather than cold hard facts.

I’m gonna have to disagree with the assertion. There are plenty of examples throughout history of patriarchal societies; many Muslim countries exist that way today. Hell, the US had remnants of it until half a century ago (ie women couldn’t open credit cards without men’s approval, women couldn’t serve on juries, etc). A lot has changed in the US since so the “crush the patriarchy” argument is pretty irrelevant.

I'd welcome a Matriarchy if the women were super nice and chill and took care of their own shit and weren't vindictive and entitled as fuck who gives a shit as long as despots are thrown from the castle walls.

It wouldn't make a difference if sanity and good judgment was ruling and in any equal society whether it leaned a little more to one sex being dominant in social structure or not there would be minimal difference vs the alternative because everyone would still be doing pretty much the same shit.

It's people that are the problem they will find a way to break anything. Lol.

Neither. Men's leadership would be respected in a patriarchy, which definitely isn't the case. Women would have responsibility proportionate to power in a matriarchy, instead of having the accountability of toddlers we see running rampant AKA the pussy pass

It's neither.

We live in a series of hierarchies.

You have a family hierarchy, where one or two people are mainly calling the shots. You have a work hierarchy, where you have a literal org chart somewhere that lays out who reports to who and who has decision making authority over what. You live in a community hierarchy, whereby some people run the local government and decide on how things will work, others work for the government and keep things running, and still others pay the taxes that keep things rolling weather they like it or not. If you have a drivers license and drive, on the road you exist in still another hierarchy whereby some vehicles have right of way, others get special consideration and require special rules because of their size and weight, still others are carrying passengers and have different rules applied to them, and others are very small and carry special rules because of that.

These hierarchies mesh together, and our status in one will influence our status in others. The CDL driver who makes good money, then retires and rises to a position of prominence in his family as well as being elected to the city council has his status drop in two hierarchies and rise in two others.

If a woman walks into an environment that is all male where she has no status and she seeks to climb the ranks quickly, she will be looked at as an intruder. As would any too-ambitious man. If a man goes to a hot yoga class that's all women, he's going to draw attention and it's going to be a situation. That's the nature of life.

Women, or at least some women, want to paint this natural structure as some evil, intentional construct that prioritizes men over women. While some of it is intentional in nature (with that being a good thing - men's rules are kinder than nature's) it is something that will always happen and always exist. There will always be some who are more capable and more prone to taking a leadership role. And that's a good thing, really.
