I think it should be a violation because self defense should be something that everyone should have a right to be knowledgeable about. Women might feel they need to know this more than men, but men clearly have a need to know how to defend themselves given that they are the ones who get assaulted more frequently.

I know some women only opportunities have been successfully challenged under Title IX, but often the OCR has responded that such offerings aren’t clearly discriminatory (even though they clearly are).

Consider that having slightly more men go into athletics can be considered a title ix violation while many yoga, palates, Zumba, aerobics, etc., are often far more female dominated but are no ever considered a title ix violation. It’s incredibly one-sided.

There’s another user here who specializes in Title IX, who has addressed the one sided enforcement many times here.

Of course the other relevant issue is that men are typically assaulted more than women, so it’s biased to assume women need self defense skills more than men do. Why not offer self defense to everyone regardless of sex? How would offering this to men as well in anyway diminish what women can get out of this training?

I actually saw this last year at my campus, I approached a table that they set up cause it caught my eye and as soon as they saw me I got told “this is for women only.” Kinda hurt my feelings in a weird way cause I was just curious about it, and it felt like I was immediately being viewed in a hostile manner. Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth for sure.

Well its not only sex based segregation but unless you have male instructors its going to less effective as they are going to end up overestimating their chances.

Or its going to be something fucking stupid like "carry your keys!!!!" and probably have much less of a focus on situational awareness.

Don't misrepresent it. R.A.D. explicitly offers men's self defense courses in addition to women's self defense courses

If a campus isn't offering both men's and women's, then yes, that's discriminatory.

Everyone could benefit from a R.A.D. course, seriously. I've taken a few (once you take one, you can sign up to practice at other R.A.D. courses across the country)

I think the bigger part is breaking down stereotypes that women can't be strong I understand the separation and favouritism portrayed may be disheartening but I can understand why they may have it
