Accusations that turn out to be false should be treated with the same severity as the crime. That is to say, if you falsely accuse someone of committing crime X, and you’re found to be doing it falsely, you should face the same amount of time in prison as the person who was wrongly accused of the crime would have been facing. It’s fair.

This simply wouldn't happen if circumstantial evidence didn't actually convict people. As it's the state that lays the charges, it's also the stay that should provide the proof, the actual proof that a crime happen. Not circumstantial evidence that because this kid was at a certain place and certain time, so he must of did it.

Which trust me, knowing prosecutors, that's 90% of their theory. Circumstantial convictions happen all the time, even with a jury. And that's why people are often quick to plea and the fact that it takes a lot of wealth to fund a defense that equals the states prosecution. For prosecuters, it's it's numbers game, charge so many people, get so many convictions, and run for judge in a few years.

And as much as I want them punished, it's likely that if there was a punishment they would never have come forward. It just goes to show that the solution is to make them prove it.

I do fear if this goes on it would become a self fulfilling prophecy on the claims of rape culture. Imagine if this goes on for another 20-50 years, public perception towards people that make rape accusations goes south, false rape accusations almost vanish as it provides no benefit for the accusers and the person that suffers the most are the actual rape victims, like a sort of the boy who cried wolf but with the person that cried wolf and the person that gets their sheep eaten by a wolf being different people.

I do doubt it would go that far south but sooner or later, the pendulum would start swinging the other way
