These places like Singapore and other small "State cities", (UAE, and so on) have long been portrayed as some kind of economic, social and political miracles. However, it has been understood for some times already that these places are truly welcoming for individuals relatively wealthy who can truly afford it. Now, we can also see with this example and others shared in various setting that the type of society Singapore has built and promoted also comes with many conditions, restrictions, and sometimes even discriminatory practices of all kinds. So, this might still be a dream to live there for many but definitely not for everyone...

The saddest part is how some people refuse to use the knowledge we have gained in dealing with behavioral issues over the past 100 years.

Many bullies become bullies because they are neglected, abused, beaten etc. by their authority figures and take out their anger and vengeance on weaker objects (other children, animals etc.). So what is additional violence from adults going to reinforce in them?

Maybe I’m completely ignorant, but I always had the impression that more boys, by a large margin, were strapped in school then girls when the strap (or cane, belt etc.) was still allowed in schools in the Western world or in the UK.

Am I wrong?

Nah, I'm pro corporal punishment, but obviously no punishment should be sex based.

Corporal punishment is unpleasant, but punishment is meant to be.
If we took everyone in jail for non-violent offences, caned them and kicked them out, we'd be in a much better position, and able to ensure people committing serious offences stayed inside for their terms instead of 1/3 the duration.

Using it on kids should be a last resort for a critical situation, eg if a kid refuses to understand that cars can be dangerous and continues to run into roads. But it needs to be an option for that very reason.

Of course if it's going to be used on one sex it should be used on both.

Don't like the sexism or that it's done to minors, but I'm not going to second guess how a country without a crime problem deals with crime.
