Wow, just wow.

A sanguine, reasoned and balanced article debunking the rape hysteria statistics in a publication as august as Time magazine.

Everyone from Paul Elam, Karen Straughan and all those at AVFM, down to those of us who perform the light lifting of raising awareness on places like reddit and in comments sections below feminist hysteria articles should take the opportunity to take a bow and feel a little pride in having started to move the conversation about rape to a more sane plateau.

Seriously, this is a break through.

This has put me in an uncommonly good mood.

Once again, congratulations to all the activists out there. This is a watershed moment.

Feminism is already struggling for support, especially among young people as we are seeing a significant increase in anti-feminism among teens and young adults. As more and more people learn that the feminist perspective on rape is shaped by the belief that a woman forcing a man to have sex is not really rape, I don't think feminism will be able to last much longer. Their cries of "rape culture" are laughable when it becomes apparent that feminism itself is the biggest proponent of rape denial.

One possible issue with the article is that 'made to penetrate' doesn't necessarily mean women are doing the raping.

That aside, these numbers are interesting.

Time Magazine:

when asked about experiences in the last 12 months, men reported being “made to penetrate”—either by physical force or due to intoxication—at virtually the same rates as women reported rape (both 1.1 percent in 2010, and 1.7 and 1.6 respectively in 2011).

In other words, if being made to penetrate someone was counted as rape—and why shouldn’t it be?—then the headlines could have focused on a truly sensational CDC finding: that women rape men as often as men rape women.

As others have noted, such writing in a mainstream publication is significant.

To be able to quote a Time Magazine piece saying "that women rape men as often as men rape women" is a major step.

Great article. Rape is a terrible crime. But its definition needs to be consistent and we need a new push to protect everyone from sexual violence as people with equal rights who are part of our community rather than focusing on one gender.
