If you break down the figures by class it looks like "female" was treated as a class difference.

I highly doubt that they would force you out of a lifeboat just to save women first now. They might do it for a child though.

"Women and children first" was so that men would cooperate and wouldn't fight each other, trying to get their families in the nearest lifeboat.

Well almost every employee in the bows of the ship was a man. I would guess that most of the people who lived were wealthy, and of them, maybe a slightly higher percentage of women because of “chivalry”.

These numbers don’t tell the story.
