Milo Yiannopoulos (I think it was him) said he had a friend who invested in the stock market in part by betting against companies when they announced they were heavily pushing diversity, because it marked the point of departure from meritocracy and basic sense.

[–]BigAl265 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's...that's pretty damn intriguing. I have some stock I need to sell, brb.

[–][deleted] 19 points20 points21 points 10 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

The simplest explanation is obviously that when a company pays women as much as men, they become fiscally insolvent! It's all that damn gender pay gap; they just can't compete with companies saving 30% on labor hiring women.

I APPARENTLY NEED TO MARK THIS FLAGRANT SARCASM AS SUCH BECAUSE OF ALL THE FUCKING BUTTHURT

[–]Lokimonoxide 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

All the butthurt? One dude responded to you. ahhaha

Your comment is beyond stupid.

My comment was also a fucking joke.

That is Milo, yeah.

What I find curious is precisely how long these companies can lose money, religiously, before they finally get to a point where they call it a day and shut down. Twitter has been losing money for a DECADE.

What the hell are the SJWs gonna do when Twitter finally tanks and they don't have a captive board to milk for their campaigns and to de-platform their critics on their behalf?

[–]mcavvacm 14 points15 points16 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ask for donations and following that charge a members fee.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

that'll get women to flee overnight.

Ffs I keep trying to bid $50 to buy twitter from yahoo. Wonder how long that money maker is gonna last.

[–]Trajer 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Most companies are in the red for a long time before they start actually making money. Amazon just got out of the red about 2-3 years ago, and they've been a company since '95.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But at least they had a business model bringing in revenue. Twitter's revenue stream is anemic to say the least.

Cleopatra was the last pharaoh of Egypt yes?

[–]dungone 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Last in a 3-century dynasty, yes. And the empress dowager Cixi of China. She outlawed footbinding while presiding over the fall of the Qing dynasty. The thug they had in common, when you look at how they got to power, is that it was only possible because the dynasties were already weak, both coming to power by presiding over child emperors. After which their empires were seized by foreigners.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

What is your source for this claim?

[–]dungone 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Here's an example

[–]TheCenterHolds 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a single, idiosyncratic example, and I can't find any information on this company beyond this article. Assuming that this happened as Brick described it, it's worth remembering that new business ventures fail routinely; the fact that this all-female organization failed is in no way conclusive proof that companies with a higher percentage of female employees are any more likely to fail. Do you have any other evidence at all?

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

The claim that domination by women is in any way correlated with a downturn.

Okay that was nonsense. A young women getting hired over an older women isn't a pussy pass. And 40 year old women have stable careers? Since when? Compared to what? And if young people were so inept, they wouldn't have started companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, etc., which have driven far more experienced competitors into the ground.

[–]hhamama66 -2 points-1 points0 points 10 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

This phenomenon actually occurs in the animal kingdom. There's a species of monkies (forgot which, I'll look into that) completely lacking in dominant males. The women are the dominant sex and the males exhibit behavior similar to that of betas or cucks. If a predator was introduced, they'd be fucked. Also, they haven't evolved as far as other species.

[–]Manwich3000 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If you can find a source, that'd be much appreciated! :)

[–]BookOfGQuan 3 points4 points5 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

This makes absolutely no sense. For a start: evolution does not work that way, and males and females are not different species.

Also, this love affair with the wordlet "Cuck" wore out its welcome long ago.

[–]hhamama66 -1 points0 points1 point 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They're not. Which is why I changed it from "dominant species" to "dominant sex." And yes, evolution does work that way. Evolution responds to the world around you. If you're constantly in danger, your offspring will evolve to counter that danger

[–]omegaphallic 43 points44 points45 points 10 years ago (27 children) | Copy Link

Fuck Twitter. We need a social network that doesn't hate men. I almost never use the fucking thing.

[–]dungone 31 points32 points33 points 10 years ago (20 children) | Copy Link

Men don't need a social media network.

[–]explicitlarynx 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (18 children) | Copy Link

Why not?

[–]Hitleresque 57 points58 points59 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Because we have better shit to do

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

i don't get why a lot of us guys here seem to act superior to women. i get the whole men's rights movement, but i don't get the negative attitude. shouldn't you be fighting to dissolve the image that men's rights guys are ant-women? because that's sure as hell what this comment chain looks like. Hell, SRS does the same act of acting high and mighty.

[–]Hitleresque 2 points3 points4 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

It's not supposed to be anti-woman. I haven't looked at the rest of the chain, but what dungone and I are saying is that men tend to have better shit to do than fish for likes or hearts or whatever the fuck on social media. It means nothing to me and most other people with a full time job and hobbies. The statistics probably show the same (I can't declare this but look it up, I wager I'm right), men in general probably don't use social media as much due to lack of time and interest in meaningless social validation. Observing that different general trends exist between men and women isn't inherently sexist. If I were complaining about it or looking down on them for it then that's another story.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

ah gotcha mate, wasn't necessarily complaining about you but yes, there were a couple dudes with a little douchery. and i get it, each sex does have their quirks, stereotypes come from some truth and our biology is different. it's all good with you man, just had to give my social piece.

[–]explicitlarynx 1 point2 points3 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Twitter is a pretty powerful tool though

[–]dungone 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

It was at one point an influential platform, but it was never a particularly good tool for anything. It made sense for a split second before everyone got smartphones. The only thing that can be said about it now is that it's possible to show people ads as long as they continue to use it. But why would they use it? There are better ways of communicating.

[–]dungone 8 points9 points10 points 10 years ago* (11 children) | Copy Link

Because social media is nothing more than an interactive gossip mill for navel-gazers. Men prefer things that serve a practical purpose and which offer some tangible results.

[–]MRA-automatron-2kb 5 points6 points7 points 10 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

I was thinking about that the other day when a woman was putting words in my mouth that I'm saying men are superior to women.

When I thought about it afterwards, all the inventions we live with refrigeration, heating, AC, vehicles, shelter, all were invented and built by men.

[–]Swinship 10 points11 points12 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

There was a reality show like survivor on TV in Europe or Eastern Europe where a team of men and a team of women were stranded on beaches in remote locations. The men's camp had less social skills but built a working structure with shelter. Had fire setup and ready and everyone pulled thier part. The women didn't do anything. They then decided to send one woman to the men and a man to the women. He couldn't believe how lazy the women were and they basically asked him to fix and create everything. The woman sent to the men was treated like a queen. I guess men left with nothing get shit done. And women will tend to wait for someone to do it. I think it wasn't aired again because it obviously wasn't women's favourite show lol

Thanks for the amusing recount of the Survivor episode.

I wish they'd show more TV programs that depict women for whom they really are. (useless)

It's like that in real life, women wonder who will do it for them.

[–]Swinship 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

i mean im sure theres a group of women who would make a paradise, its just that when left to thier normal behaviour men tend to prefer doing jobs and work, where as women tend to be more social. Theres nothing wrong with it, until work has to be done or talking about something needs to be done, then they both tend to come up short lol

Like reddit! Wait, nevermind we're all hypocrites...

[–]dungone 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Reddit is practical. It offers easy to find, topical discussion forums. I use it to find news and technical resources pertaining to my profession, to pursue human rights activism, and that's basically it. I'm indifferent to Reddit or old-school usenet or any other platform for topical discussion forums. The concept long predates "social networking" and the only "social network" features on Reddit can easily be ignored. I have exactly zero Reddit "friends" and have never had to build up a "following" or participate in any other kind of "social" activity to overcome some barrier to entry for using any "social network" features.

well reddit..

[–]deathdragon5858 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Reddit isn't quite as bad IMO. I find twitter impossible to have any real discussions, due to their stupid ass low character limit per post. It's only good for memes and one liner burns really.

[–]boundlesscuriosity 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Reddit is full of sjw's who censor any speech they find "offensive". Then we go to 4chan which has it's good posts but it's like wading through 10 tons of shit for one nugget. Just not worth it. If reddit and twitter embodies female sensitivie and feelings policing 4chan embodies males going ape and winding each other up just for the sake of it.

We need something in the middle, where free speech is respected but it doesn't degenerate into insults and shit talking.

[–]omegaphallic 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Insults and shit talking can be fun, but its not conductive to insight ajd dialog I'll admit.

[–]BonRennington 16 points17 points18 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Apparently from his company's attitude, Jack wouldn't have any problem with a #KillJackDorsey hash tag either, so at least they are fair about it.

[–]bucsfan2580 17 points18 points19 points 10 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

After this story, I just did the same. Idle threats to kill ANYONE should be unacceptable, even if they are widely regarded as "jokes".

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points17 points 10 years ago* (8 children) | Copy Link

I've compared it to the "make a sandwich" joke.

Both take irritating or bothersome behaviour we encounter from the opposite sex and generalize it to the entire gender, and then suggest a broad, gender based solution that's clearly over the line. Whether it's men suggesting that we retreat to the 1950s and put women back in the kitchen because they are a pain to deal with sometimes, or women suggesting that half the world's population needs to vanish because men are a pain to deal with sometimes ... it's really just prejudice thinly disguised as humour.

You don't even make those kinds of jokes unless you're looking to mock and belittle people for their gender in the first place.

[–]rubberjesus45 21 points22 points23 points 10 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

I get the point you're trying to make but do you really think a sexist saying like get back to the kitchen is equatable to the genocide of half the population? Because that's egregious opinion, even if I concede that some people are completely serious when they say women belong in the kitchen, and some may be joking about kill all men. (And Pardon my French) but it's fucking ludicrous regardless of being sexist the sandwich thing doesn't openly advocate violence! It's just a god damn joke, there are real people out there that would genuinely like to see all men dead.

[–][deleted] -5 points-4 points-3 points 10 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I get the point you're trying to make but do you really think a sexist saying like get back to the kitchen is equatable to the genocide of half the population?

That's not really what I said, though. I said they both are based in generalizations and a pretty dark seed of anger, not that they were equal in the solution they presented. Of course someone joking about killing half the population should be getting more stick than someone joking about putting women back in the kitchen.

And, to go further, the response you get from feminists over the sandwich joke vs. the defensiveness you get when you challenge on them in the kill all men joke is extraordinarily telling. They clearly want the right to make these kinds of dark jokes that are indicative of deeply ingrained biases without seeing them in return.

[–]rubberjesus45 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago* (4 children) | Copy Link

Oh I have no issues with jokes, I tend to enjoy dark tasteless jokes. I've had people make jokes about my gender, my sexuality, my skin color, my heritage, my physical features, my personality, my accent, my economical status.

When was the last time a 3 year old boy oppressed anyone? If anything your allowing history to dictate the future, which does not benefit anyone. Sure there still are bigots in this world there will always be, but you tend to catch more flies with honey then vinager. You want a tasteless joke, next time someone uses the get back into the kitchen joke tell them to get drafted. That's pretty much the same except it focuses on the horrors of war and is directed at only a single man, instead of a whole gender. Which I think is why killallmen is kinda stupid, it doesn't just affect bigots that deserve the harsh treatment, but also all innocent men and boys.

I suppose the point of this ramble is find a joke that's offensive but doesn't condemn 4.5 billion people just because some of them are sexist bigots. It's kinda not cool, like in the hate monger way. Get what I'm trying to say or is this all pointless dribble to you? Because if I'm wasting my time let me know.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

We actually agree, though.

I made a point about how the two jokes were similar in kind, and it seems like you think I mean they are also equal in degree, but I'm in firm agreement with you that #killallmen goes much further.

[–]rubberjesus45 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Ah I see what your saying now fair point, but like I said before I would prefer a better more personal joke then killallmen especially when there's documentation of several well know feminist who actually believe that the world would be better with the male population removed or at least culled. (This may be extreme but it's the best comparison I can come up with on the spot) but it's like a neo nazi joking about killalljews, yeah sure it might be funny to them but others might see that as a statement with intention, instead of a very poor tasted joke. I guess what I'm trying to say is that it's not just that it's a joke some people really believe that shit, and that to me is where it stops becoming a joke. I understand that the same can be said of the kitchen joke, but that doesn't advocate violence against innocents. That's why I said I would prefer a more personal joke that seems like it's a jab at a specific person instead of a threat of genocide. Do you get where I'm coming from at all? Btw I'm not trying to argue with you but instead have a civil discussion so please do not take anything I've said so far as an insult, because I've meant no ill will.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Yeah, that's why these kinds of jokes are disturbing. Everyone who hears them knows that there's something behind them and they are by no means just innocent attempts at humour.

There are people that want women back in the kitchen, and there are people that want modern men to pay and pay and pay for the offenses of past generations, including some that want to kill men outright. That's what lends these jokes that kind of menace.

[–]rubberjesus45 0 points1 point2 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree, that's why really I believe all those jokes should be reserved for people who are comfortable with the people they are telling them to, that's why I hate social media it just amps pointless conflict to the nth degree, for god sakes 20 years ago none of this shit would have blown up to this level. I really believe as a race of hyper intelligent apes we should be able to step back and see how stupid so many of our problems are and just get over it.

[–]MeEvilBob 4 points5 points6 points 10 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
