Creepy means someone who ignores socially established cues in the context of courting.

For example, some guy at a bar touching a girl's bare shoulder while he talks to her without her giving him any cues that it's okay (ie flirting with him) or after she's given him cues that it's not okay (ie deliberately removing his hand or distancing herself from him).

There are two ways a guy gets labelled "creepy":

He honestly didn't pick up on those cues. This is the unfortunate creep. He is the one who posts all over reddit that creepy simply means "unattractive to me." The truth is, however, that many many many guys who could be models are much bigger creeps than the average looking guys. This is because they are used to their advances being encouraged by women and either choose to ignore or don't recognize cues to stop. Their egos make them continue to hit on the girl even after she's said (verbally or nonverbally) to stop.
The second kindof creep is intentional and is the one who really "seems like a rapist / child molester". This type of person is devious and controlling and manipulative. They will go out of their way to corner girls and to dominate them. I doubt any of these people are on reddit.

I hope this clears it up. For the record, girls can also be called creeps, although due to our culture of "boy makes the first move," it's often the men who achieve this status.

If you are called a creep by a woman, you've either tried to hit on her when she thinks she's already told you to stop (and you haven't noticed) or she's a raging cunt. Women look down on women who are mean to nice people. Of course this doesn't apply to highschool.

Creepy or Creep is a pejorative term used by women against men. Since women have little responsibility in the mating game, except to accept or reject an advance, they operate from a position of "privilege" in which they can brand unwanted attention as socially deviant. Unwanted attention comes from those men to whom a woman feels superior. Because the calibur of men that a woman attracts can be a direct reflection of their own worth ("mirror image affect"), when a woman is approached by somebody she finds unappealing she internalizes the attention as a poor reflection on her own worth. She then lashes out. It is a mechanism for not only rejecting an advance, but denigrating the man who attempted the connection.

I like to think of myself as reasonable, but I had a "creepy" experience last week.

I was walking home from work at twilight and a much older, intoxicated man (probably in his 60's) on a scooter followed me the entire way, calling out to me, telling me to come home with him, making comments about my breasts (which he couldn't see, in my winter coat) and telling me what he was going to do to me when he got me home.

This really rarely happens to me, I'm pretty tall and not a petite woman, I'm not fantastically pretty or anything, and I tend to walk "like a man," fast and with purpose, so I was kind of surprised. I just walked up over the curbs and across lawns and whatnot so he couldn't follow me, but I was super irritated that some idiot thought he had the right to spoil my walk home.

I'd be equally irritated if some woman on a scooter was following me, harassing me by talking about her cats and begging for my attention. Demanding a complete stranger's attention, for twenty minutes, out of the blue, when you have no relationship, especially when it's growing dark outside, is creepy!

It is subjective from female to female. It can have a high or low threshold. Someone who is a completely nice guy and hits on a girl politely once (even being polite has been interpreted as creepy) and rejected can be labeled a creep.

The problem is that with the subjective interpretation comes a subjective label, and most head to the lowest common denominator of that classification upon re-interpretation of that label. Jenna could have referred to Jeff as a "creep" in passing conversation, but when Becky heard this she interpreted it as he was the worst kind of creep she ever met. No one upon re-interpretation of the label thinks of the most "optimistic" of creeps always the worst.

In short, a guy could be labeled a creep for just about any reason in the world, including "not being her type" or "looking at her funny". But the label carries with it a "He would rape you if you weren't in a public place" stigma when heard and re-interpreted by 3rd parties.

For me, as a female, "creepy" is when a guy comes on too strong at a first meeting or if his comments are "off". In my late teens, I had a 40-something guy come up to me at a diner and tell me that he really liked my ass and could lick it for hours...that's creepy. Just put yourself in the woman's place and imagine what you would feel like if guys said mess-up stuff like that to you. As long as you treat women like contemporaries and not fuck holes, you won't be considered creepy.

Oh for fuck's sake. Like a million other words in the dictionary what it means is pretty much open to the interpretation. There's no hard and fast rules about the word 'creep' or 'slut' or 'bitch' or 'asshole' or 'douchebag' or anything else. Everyone's thresholds are different. This isn't some sexist outrage that some dudes get called 'creepy'.

Creepy = male. To the extent that a man acts unlike men, i.e., plucks his eyebrows, watches the Food Network, wears fashionable (to women) jeans, and says nothing even remotely "dirty" (read: sexual... see how the female mind has conceptualized sexuality like shitting the bed?), then he is able to opt out of being creepy.

Note that this has nothing to do with ACTUAL creeps--having tattoos, lacking a job/personal hygiene, and violent/sadistic tendencies are never creepy. They're sexy.
