For every heterosexual man who isn't married there is a heterosexual woman who isn't too. The man is no more refusing to marry than she is.

If she hasn't

  • asked out a bunch of men
  • pursued a bunch of men on online dating sites
  • attempted a bunch of first kisses (while getting enthusiastic consent first but not ruining the moment)
  • negotiated who paid without seeming cheap
  • initiated sex (while getting enthusiastic consent first but not ruining the moment)
  • bought an expensive ring for the man she wants to marry
  • demonstrated to him that she can support children financially
  • proposed
  • and countless other things that lead to marriage

she is not only refusing marriage, she isn't even trying to make it happen.

Is there something genetic that only men can do those things? If so, then explain this deficiency in women. If not, go for it, ladies. Many men are waiting to be wooed. Otherwise, why do you refuse to marry?

I keep waiting for my princess charming to come along.

Sadly, we can only talk about the true equality of hetero-relations like this on the internet. In day-to-day conversations, all you (well, I) get are rolled eyes and scoffs that you're just whining. I have tried teasing this viewpoint with people only to have even the slightest mention that it can even be a two-way street was rebuffed and I was treated with incredulity. I definitely felt belittled and that I had somehow lost respect for the whisper of the idea that women can and should try to do any work in a relationship.

I've even encountered a lot of resistance to the idea online as well. I sighed with frustration on my Facebook page, saying that women could make the first move or any move for a change. I received more comments from my "friends" on that than the entirety of my Facebook collected. Almost every one of the women threw excuse after excuse as to why women didn't make moves. From biology, to social conditioning, to redpill stuff like Alpha Fucks/Beta Bux (Serioulsy a woman told me that) to more social shaming, to personal attacks.

[–]CornyHoosier 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

redpill stuff like Alpha Fucks/Beta Bux

It's evidently too difficult for people to grasp that attraction plays a significant part in how the genders interact, which tends to be the root of what TRP talks about.

[–]brain_candy 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sure, I think it goes without saying that attraction is as close to "step 1" as you can get. My thoughts are more about what proceeds. As in, if a woman is attracted to someone she can more easily approach that person than say a man. She is much, much more likely to receive a positive response to her approach than a man in the same scenario. That's based on the redpill idea (more like the natural trend) of the 80/20 rule. Based on that, a woman has 4x better chances of getting a positive response than the man.

[–]theozoph 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (12 children) | Copy Link

You want a fantasy in the real world : functional equality in a world of gender differences. Until you learn to let go of this ideological comfort blanket, you will not find happiness, it's all there is to it.

Sorry, but you've been fed a lie. Men and women are different, they do not share the same instincts, or the same capabilities, they have different mating strategies, they're not even attracted to the same things.

Accept it, and stop insisting the world conform to the lie that we are blank slates programmed by society.

[–]brain_candy 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

What are you talking about? How does that in any way imply that women cannot express interest?

[–]InBaggingArea 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

It doesn't.

[–]theozoph -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Except for the fact that any time /u/brain_candy floated the idea to a woman, he was shut down, ridiculed and/or attacked, by his own retelling.

But hey, you got a few karma points by catering to this subs' delusions, so why not?

[–]InBaggingArea 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Are you taking to me or brain candy? If you're talking to me, I'm only five years old. You'll have to explain it to me more clearly.

[–]theozoph -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Nope, give the computer back to your Mom and go to bed.

[–]InBaggingArea 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

My mom says I shouldn't listen to strange men on the internet.

[–]theozoph -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

She's quite right, they might turn you into a man, and we couldn't have that.

[–]InBaggingArea1 point 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I'll take that like a man.

[–]theozoph0 points 11 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No doubt.

[–]theozoph -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

You've already established that any answer to that will be framed by you as "excuses". Why waste my time if you're unwilling to hear the answers?

Unless you can accept that gender differences are real, and that they shape our mating strategies, there is no point arguing with you. PUA's might put out a lot of bullshit, but their analysis of our mating patterns are spot-on : men are polygamous, women are hypergamous, women are attracted to status and wealth over looks, they have a dual strategy regarding reproduction vs. provisioning, etc.

Unless you're willing to hear that out, and try it for yourself (which means putting yourself out there), people can harp all day long about why women don't really care about making the first step, however committed to "equality" they are, and you just won't accept it.

Try to understand that it's not the world that is wrong, or women... it's you. You just won't let go. You want this reassuring belief that women can (and should want to) shoulder some of that anxiety that comes with opening to a stranger, and letting them judge you. But women aren't interested, and they never will be. What's more, they don't have to, unless they're really unappealing. You're swimming again the tide of evolution with that bullshit, and you're setting yourself up for failure.

So why are you so committed to that idea, really? Has it ever been confirmed by your experience? Has it ever led to a pleasurable relationship? What's going on, here?

[–]Not_An_Ambulance 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well, yes... But, at the same time men and women are not as different as some people like to think.

Stronger Emotional intelligence? Please... my girlfriend is fucking oblivious to how I feel, I just put up with her random emotional demands because they make me feel loved for some reason. I have no delusion that she's more in touch with anything.

[–]theozoph -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

But, at the same time men and women are not as different as some people like to think.

It's not a Mars/Venus thing, but at some point understanding our differences is how we accept one another and make the relationship work. As long as we have unreasonable assumptions about the other sex, we're bound to make mistakes which will jeopardize it.

It's the difference between going in blind, and having a clue.

With the way online dating works men have become a commodity and women know it. In the online dating scene the average man is happy to get a single legitimate message from a woman in a month, the average woman gets dozens of legitimate messages in a month depending on the location. Women are waiting it out until prince charming comes along, the man who is perfect at anything while they are far from perfect themselves ( i.e. the 'plus sized woman' who refuses anyone but a perfectly toned man ). This attitude continues until their 30s and then they start to panic, wondering why no one will marry them as their biological clock ticks! By then men will no longer be interested to marry such a woman. Their expectations are so unrealistic that they are not even available for marriage. Online dating is pretty much a lottery for men, with the jackpot being a rare specimen of a down to earth woman who is actually interested in a realistic relationship that doesn't revolve around her being a princess.

[–]JamesKBoyd 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I love what you have written here, and I have often wondered why it was this way. I have actually been proposed to before, but the woman was a bit off balanced, so I declined her proposal. Well, that being one reason. There were others as well.

[–]IgnatiusBSamson 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This comment is awesome.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

HAH. I love it. That's a very succinct version of a speech I give often to women who have hit 30 and are wondering why they have not gotten married. Some people (of both sexes) are truly ugly/obnoxious, but from my perspective, women who are not married by age 30 usually have not tried to achieve the wedded state. They assume it will happen by magic, without any sort of effort or compromise on their part.

[–]MaestroLogical 21 points22 points23 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Rather good article, even if it is just pointing out things we've known for years.

[–]loddfavne 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Helen Smith understands both parts of the equation. If I were to make a sexist assumption, I would say that her communication skills and understanding of social dynamics enables her to make a bridge between what most men knows deep down inside and the existing assumptions about families. This is the reason she is rich.

[–]InBaggingArea 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

'I remember a court clerk telling me: “Whatever you do, don’t say you love your children. Family courts consider men who articulate this as extreme.” It was madness.’

This doesn't make sense to me. Why would this be extreme? Is it really regarded as extreme?

Genuine question.

[–]II-Blank-II 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

What the hell, really? As a man going through a divorce as we speak I'd like to know too.

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I volunteer as a children's advocate in a very conservative US state. NO, in my opinion, a father professing love for his children is not considered extreme. Maybe this is the British stiff-upper-lip thing? It's a daily Fail article, after all...

[–]Wargame4life 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

as stated so many times before, you don't owe anyone marriage, if the terms aren't equal you are under no obligation to give someone matrimony.

do what benefits you and if women complain, so what its not your problem who cares.

Why is this described as "men refusing to marry", when there are no women for them to marry in the first place? There are very few women and swarms of aged out girls who feel entitled to whatever their little hearts desire. How is that men's fault - other than their fathers'?

[–]PasswordIsNotTomatoe 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

My wife and I have agreed to not get married and it is great. We've been together for nine years and we don't fight about things like money. She buys her own groceries, I buy my own groceries, but we go grocery shopping together. She deals with her own car repairs and her own job and I deal with mine. We treat each other to dinner every now and then, but it is never an obligation or held over each other's head.

We also don't feel 'trapped' in this relationship and know that every day we are together, it is because we love each other.

[–]Tmomp 15 points16 points17 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Have you talked to a lawyer about describing her as your wife? You may be setting yourself up as common law married. I'm not a lawyer so I don't know, but you can find out. Your account may be anonymous now, but will it always?

[–]PasswordIsNotTomatoe 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

There is no common law marriage in my State.

think you need to review your logic there

[–]Olferen 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Marriage wasn't always a legal agreement. It used to be a verbal agreement and maybe they'd tell the church.

[–]prodiver 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

My wife and I have agreed to not get married and it is great.

I just checked your post history to see if you call her your "wife" on a regular basis.

It seems that you do.

Congratulations! If you live in Alabama, Colorado, Kansas, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Iowa, Montana, Utah, Texas or Washington DC you are legally married!

Good article but better than that, the confused and bitter comments are sweet, sweet music. This is a replay of the howls from men in the 70s. Suck it up, Sisterhood; this is the world you made.

[–]Lrellok 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Missing the problem by miles. According to livingwage.mit.edu, it costs $40000 to feed, cloth and house a family of four in the united states. Census data shows median 25-34 male income at $32000. That's an $8000 short fall. I cannot find marrying age male income by decile, but I am willing to bet that it hits 40k around the 70th percentile, which happens (que suprise) to be when men start getting married.

[–]eaton80 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Poverty has been a part of human civilization from the earliest days, yet a crash in marriage rates is very new. That is why imho economics alone does not sufficiently explain the decline in marriage rates.

[–]Lrellok 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No. Our ability to CALCULATE the crash is new. Read "the gangs of new york" (the book, not the movie). Poor urban areas have always had low marraige rates.

[–]SlashSero 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Once the prospect of a faithful wife and marriage falls, men also stop working as hard. Marriage and a family was a carrot on a stick that pushed the economy, but now with the current culture that prospect is gone from certainty to an unrealistic expectation. Without that prospect more and more men are following their own way in life, working less competitive jobs and working a little less hours for more free time. Without the obligation of providing for a family there's little drive for men to earn more unless they want to themselves.

[–]eaton80 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Those irresponsible Peter Pan man-boys. /s

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Bingo. Poor people (in America) don't marry before they reproduce. Wealthy people do. In the middle class, it depends greatly on other factors such as religion and upbringing (i.e., a middle-class young person will insist on marriage before the baby carriage, while a middle-class person from a broken home will be OK with a illegitimate birth).

[–]ASpooky_Ghost 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

I've never believed in marriage to begin with. It's an archaic tradition that needs to stop.

argues a wickedly provocative new book

The book might be new, but to those of the manosphere, this is like mens rights 101.

They don’t want to enter into a legal contract with someone who could effectively take half their savings, pension and property when the honeymoon period is over.

What a fucking absurd minimization of the real risks of divorce rape. If she only takes half your stuff you are one of the lucky few. Men typically lose 70% of "marital" assets, and then get raped for the rest of their lives with alimony and child support that (combined with taxation), will typically consume 70-110% of their post tax income (110% means you are accruing a "debt"). All while the cunt sits back and gets compensated for her loss of earning "potential". Hey, I also have great potential to be a doctor, but I didn't study hard or go to uni - can I get an income for free as well?

Men aren’t wimping out by staying unmarried or being commitment phobes. They’re being smart

Fuck yeah they are. They are wising up. Getting rich. Taking the red pill. Going MGTOW. If society self-destructs in the process that's just a bonus.

Marriage is like the Darwin awards in reverse - the men stupid enough to get married are also the ones that get to reproduce. Go figure. But my selfish genes are getting stroppy? Fuck them. I place myself above my fucking genes, little motherfuckers.

She also got personal maintenance of £406,500 a year from her ex’s future earnings. This, she said, was because she had ‘encouraged’ him to be a good midfielder.

You gotta wonder the tiny proportion of cunts who cash in on rich footballers...just how many ordinary (and probably decent women) will never find a husband. It is really ordinary women, not men, who will revolt against feminism. At least men can be smart and avoid the feminist holocaust and actually live very good lives compared to most men throughout history - whereas women have to basically sift through the trash in the hope of finding something worth living for. And no, a career with a "big salary" won't do it - men have known this for decades.

‘If he’s determined to get married, then he must get a pre-nuptial agreement,’ says Baldwin. ‘Otherwise steer clear altogether.

Yeah, those fool-proof, rock-solid prenups. Got to get meself one of thems. Think I'll take the second option. Oh, and for those men who really are set on getting married, I wonder what proportion of them are marrying Asian women (not that it changes anything).

Men need marriage like a fish needs a bicycle.

A bicycle is useless to a fish. But it won't turn it into a slave. Men need marriage like Jews needed the holocaust is more apt.

After decades of browbeating, men are tired.

I would say angry is more accurate. Men who get married are tired.

Tired of being told that if women aren’t happy, it’s their fault.

Fuck those cunts. They more unhappy they are the better, it means we are winning.

But by far the most negative aspect of marriage is the likelihood of being edited out of your children’s lives — if it all goes pear-shaped — by a state that has relegated the role of father to its lowest point ever.

Getting warm.

Men have long been considered aggressors and threats to the safety of children, but getting it wrong is a human trait, not a male defect.

Really? Women commit the vast majority of child abuse.

I remember a court clerk telling me: “Whatever you do, don’t say you love your children. Family courts consider men who articulate this as extreme.” It was madness.

And people think comparing the Family Court system to the holocaust is going to far. Not going far enough.

Meanwhile, young women ‘act out a skewed version of femininity that prioritises the use of sex and relationships with men above all else’.

I was hoping this was going to touch on false rape accusations, but alas.

Thank god for the internet. Imagine going forward in today's society without the foresight of what marriage is about - it's not like they are learning anything about the risks at school. The education system is part of the problem - trying to brainwash young boys with feminist gunk so they will be compliant domestic house-husbands.

The good news is men can be smart, and they can choose the incredible life of Going your Own Way. Seriously, there has never been a time in history when the opportunities to live world-wide, travel, get rich, enjoy technology, get easy pussy, have been as great as they are today. On the other hand, there has never been a time when the risks of getting married are absurdly high as they are today. Its not just a no-brainer, its base stupidity to even consider getting married (and we haven't even talked about the domestic violence laws that will basically criminalize being male).

[–]II-Blank-II 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well said brother. I'm currently going through a divorce. I'm telling myself as I type that if I ever marry again, which is unlikely, I will definetly be getting a prenup.

[–]ripple24 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Be careful. When push comes to shove, most prenups aren't worth the paper they're written on.

[–]Frobenioid 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Amen. We need marriage like black people needed slavery. Luckily men are waking up and walking off the plantation.

Men bitching about a woman not dating them, friendzone loser who feels entitled to women's bodies.

Women bitching about men not dating/marrying them, men are losers who need to grow up.

Pretty straight-talking article & somewhat surprised they printed it.

Trouble is, once u get married, you can no longer afford upset a woman. Or to rephrase, no longer have her be upset with you. Because they have all the power & a divorce will screw you over in any number of ways. Thats why so many men are whipped or browbeaten into acceptance

Whilst marriage is undoubtedly a good choice for some people, it does make me laugh hearing 28-yr-olds who've been married 18months going on about how great marriage is. LMAO, come back in 15-20yrs mate & see how you like it then
