Not many people think it matters for short term relationships. But for a long term relationship (or what you consider a long-term short-term relationship) it does matter.

Partner count has been linked to behavior. No one wants to be cheated on, deal with a negative behavior, or telegony.

For sex it doesn't matter, although in a purely sexual environment, you'd prefer experience, just for the sake of pleasure.

In a context where children are being raised, instability that arises from the anarchy of human sexual desire is a real problem. We don't an answer for that yet, other than staying away from breeding in this sexually anarchic environment.

The whole reason that a high partner count sucks is that mating isn't for life anymore. Nobody thinks floozies who you keep around for a few weeks at a time or even brief serial monogomous relationships matter on partner count. The idea is that we want marriage and mating to be for life and it isn't because of the CC and bullshit marriage laws.

Not for flings. But I recently got into an LTR and you better believe I made sure she was a virgin first. High partner counts simply demonstrate lack of self control.

For me personally it does matter some. I know TRP thinks that women are turned on by a high partner count or made more curious, it turns me off. The problem is I think there might be variation in what is considered high.

That's a rather defeatist attitude. I believe that if you play your cards right, there is a good chance that marriage will last till death do you part. But more relevant to my beliefs, regardless of how long the relationship lasts, I won't be as happy with a person with a high count.

If she won't be my last, it really doesn't matter, but under these circumstances a lot of traits I'd value a lot don't.

But at some point there's one who is supposed to be my last, and for that person other standards apply.
