The same reason a desperate job-seeker falls short. his eagerness and willingness to accept any option that presents itself makes one wonder (often unfairly) what's wrong with him that he's gotten to this point.

its not that the desperate man falls short cause he is desperate.

He is in a situation where he is desperate cause he falls short on what could literally be anything, the big contenders being self confidence, looks, and social status.

If someones been out of the game long enough to consider themselves ''desperate'' id say that they may be a case of someone either unaware of their own shortcomings or a refusal to change.

Despiration is an internal state that might lead to any number of outward manifestations. You shouldn't define "despirate men" based on a checklist of behaviors.

Well, my own "desperation" manifests in not trying at all. I've never even been in the game so now it's a bit of a catch-22 - I don't try because I have no confidence and I have no confidence because I don't try. The way to break this catch-22 is obvious, but I kinda have no motivation to do it, though the longer I wait, the harder it probably will be.

It's an internal lack of confidence in some way. He wants something he can't get and has taken it to heart. Usually, instead of addressing the problem he turns to sulking and desperation.

There are several things factors that can lead a man to be "desperate." Here is what I can think of:

Continually trying to unsuccessfully pursue women outside of his attractiveness range, whether it's because he is overconfident or just doesn't know his attractiveness level.

One-itis, or spending too much time pursuing particular women in general, rather than knowing when she is not attracted to him and he just needs to move on and try with somebody else

Excessive objectification - Meaning it is obvious to the women that he is pursuing that he sees her mostly as a means for him getting sex rather than a person that he is potentially interested in getting to know better. A charming, handsome Chad or some guy with high status can get away with this. An average guy can't.

If no woman is interested in him, then he needs to focus on self-improvement, whether it is focusing on getting fit, new wardrobe, developing interesting hobbies, developing better social skills, etc. Not being open to self-improvement but continuing to unsuccessfully pursue women is another sign of desperation.
