Double standards tend to reflect power differentials, rather than correct for them. A group with more power in some area can say that them doing one thing in that area is fine but it isn't fine for someone else. This helps them to keep their power.

The way you word this makes it sound like the one with less power creates the double standard. (“My partner must do X even though I don’t do X.”) I find it’s usually the opposite - the one with more power is often creating all the double standards. If they can get away with it - they’ll do it. If they couldn’t - they wouldn’t do it.

Because they have power over the other party - they do it and get away with it sometimes.

No -- not in the case of dating. Women have played their hand in asking for equality -- there are benefits, and accompanying fallouts and responsibility that comes with that choice. We have consigned ourselves to the maxim that "no one owes anybody anything but consent and basic respect". Men will play by those rules, and of course women can complain, but you can't always have your cake and eat it too.

There is no reason women get to be picky about height and face, but it is stigmatized for men to be picky about anything. There is no reason that women are constantly encouraged to be hypergamous, despite having access to the same jobs and opportunities as the men they won't date. There is no reason why men are always blamed for relationship fallouts despite women choosing and staying with those men and incurring no accountability. This is not a matter of "power dynamic" -- it's a case of women vying for power using sexuality.

The paradigm has, of course, changed. Men used their physical force and authority for millennia to enforce their prerogatives. An exchange between men and women existed, and as soon as modernity hit, women (and actually, tons of very powerful men) decided they didn't like the deal anymore. Double standards don't exist for any logical reason except that women insist on them and men allow it to happen.

How do you know that? Well, in any fight between a man and a woman, women would be knocked out.

Double standards, though seemingly 'unfair', usually have a reason for why they exists.

There's no reason why men are stronger than women, they just are. Evolution and nature aren't thinking beings that had a reason for making men and women different.

Christopher Hitchens told the story of his stupid religious teacher as a joke. The kids asked her why the sky is blue and the grass green, and she told them that god made them be pleasing to the eye.

But none of that (none of what you wrote) has anything to do with "Double standards are created by a power difference."

Double standards are created because people at the top want different standards for themselves and others.

In a company where all CEOs are women, it would not be cause there's any form of natural explanation but because women have voted for other women. Same with companies where CEOs are men.

The reason is purely man-made.

Nothing in our life is as ruthless as a fighting cage. Getting a promotion because you write code has nothing to do with strength. Getting to become an architect has nothing to do with strength. Getting to work in the sewers has nothing to do with strength. Opening a door, pulling up a chair, or changing a diaper has nothing to do with strength.

Just as being rich vs poor has nothing to do with natural IQ. If USA was poor and Bangladesh was rich, Bill Gates would be working in an Apple factory.

I disagree with you.

Double standards are created due to the difference between the sexes, some double standards favor women and some double standards favor men, but there is always an explanation to why that double standard exist.

For example:

Men are sent to fight wars and women are displaced to a different place to preserve their lives. See Ukraine.

Why does this happen? Women's bodies are more valuable in the context of reproduction and preservation of the species. If you put 100 woman and 1 man on an island, you can produce 100 babies per year. But if you put 100 men and 1 woman, you can only produce one baby per year. Basically you need more women to increase a population rapidly.

Another reason men are sent to fight wars, is because they are stronger than women, men have higher upper body strength which is useful if you have to carry and operate heavy weapons like launchers or high caliber weapons. It also helps if you have to carry a wounded friendly combatant in your shoulders.

This could easily be considered unfair towards men, but that's just how the world works.

WNBA gets paid less than NBA

Why does this happen? This happens because the NBA draws more pay per view purchases, more people buy tickets to NBA matches than WNBA matches, etc. Men watch the NBA more than women watch the WNBA.

Is it unfair that NBA players earn more than WNBA players? No, they don't bring the same revenue, ticket sales are not the same, PPV purchases are not the same, etc.

A lot of time you will see one gender complain about the double standards that don't benefit them, but ignore the double standards that do benefit them at the expense of the other gender.

Edit: Upon consideration, the NBA example isn't a good example of a double standard because the WNBA could get paid the same as the NBA if the brought the same revenue.

There are power differences in nature, and animals fit their role for their respective power, generally speaking.

Yes I know women love using outliers to say it’s not true, but the exception doesn’t make the rule.

We humans think we are smarter than nature and can use technology to force our way out of our roles. If I were a betting man, as a species it will hurt us more than help us. And regardless their will be a percentage of the population that adheres to the roles we’ve had since the beginning of time. Those people that break out of what society is trying to sell them, will be happier.

Normally though the one with more power has authority(along with risk) but the weaker one gets more benefits.

I think some double standards make more sense logically than others. But ultimately my pet peeve is people that have double standards for others but don’t like them being applied to themselves, very hypocritical.

I think if you date superficially then accept then don’t complain when you find superficial people.
