Hamstering is a dumb term.

Gymnastics at least implies trying to contort and wiggle your way around the elephant in the room.

"Hamstering" just implies a hamster running on a wheel. It's not a good visual metaphor for coming up with a bullshit rationalization.

Im laughing so hard right now cause personally, means a lot, my ex would talk about cognitive dissonance a la TRP while I’m over here like wait, psychology degree and worked in a cognitive behavioral lab. All I can say is cognitive dissonance applies to all facets of life. Humans have a need for control, instinctively. Without emotional maturity alongside deductive reasoning, we don’t normally do well in the “grey”. Black/white thinking is one of the common key traits across personality disorders, just sayin.
