We tend to pass less easily, tend to be more likely (as a result of growing up as dudes) to be the sorts of people to spend tons of time on the internet anyway, and people tend to flip out about us more often (which panics a suburban housewife more - someone with a dick in the women's locker room or someone without one in the men's?)

It may have something to do with how genetic-male (i.e. XY) fetuses are 'masculinized' in the womb through androgens. The process can be incomplete/partial, or mostly-there-with-only-a-slight-misstep, etc.

Female fetuses don't get the same hormone-bath (IIRC) so statistically something is less likely to go 'wrong.'

This is of course an extremely simplified understanding of what is just one possible theory.

Another possible theory: MtF persons have a feminine brain (anatomically). Some would argue that attention-whoring is an innate feminine trait, which would explain the greater visibility of MtF trans folk than would be statistically expected, however that would not explain the 3:1 gap.

Another possible theory; perhaps there are more incentives to transition to female than typically thought? The feminine gender role has at least some advantages relative to the male one. This may make some pre-transition FtM persons more willing to 'make the switch' so to speak.

Yet another possible theory; our culture has always policed male gender-nonconformity more harshly than female gender-nonconformity (or at the very least taken it as more of a 'threat'). This makes MtF's get more publicity than FtMs... its more "shocking" and "transgressive." This doesn't necessarily explain the 3:1 gap though.

Additional theory; MtF is a lot more visible than FtM which may mean women with gender dysphoria may not even know that FtM is a real thing and transition is available. Thus, the publicity gap feeds into the demographic gap of 3:1.

Final possible theory that I know of; MTF surgery is far more advanced than FTM surgery. Vaginoplasty is much better developed than Phallopasty. This may encourage more dysphoric males to transition relative to dysphoric females.

There may of course be other explanations. And a combo of explanations may be more correct than any single one.

I used to think that until I started intentionally exposing myself.

Also real story. My friend was telling me how she went on a date with this dude. This dude was hot. Great face. Nice beard. Funny.

After three dates and lots of making out he told my friend that he was formally a she. My friend showed us his photos and we could not believe it.

I think for the most part FtMs have an easier time passing. Look at Jared Leto and Justin Bieber. There are plenty examples of "pretty" men who women still find attractive despite having somewhat feminine features.

Also women have less issue dating feminine acting or whimsical men. I know plenty of real life Russel Brands who women love.

However a woman with a masculine jaw is not always so attractive. Hence more MtF individuals stand out because despite having a vagina now and makeup, their face still looks masculine.

Except for the ones who began taking hormone treatments early. Like early teens. I've seen some asian mtf individuals and I can't tell the difference. And it's because they're more lax with early hormone treatments over there.

I don't think TRP has an official stance on this, but the scientific theory is that since we all begin as female in the womb, the hormone flood that turns us biologically male somehow misses the brain, so the brain remains like a female's. It's less likely for only the brain to receive the male hormones. And I know I am using wildly unscientific and even not-technically-correct terms, but since you only asked for opinions I am just saying what my guess is based upon, which is a very general knowledge of fetal development.

More women try to suicide but more men end up an hero. Women already dress up in men's clothing than the other way round but don't have it in them to usually go the whole hog.

Though with the proliferation of steroids, you might see some unfortunately ending up that way. See East German Krieger and that recent bodybuilder woman who looks like a man.

I read an article a while back (which I can't find again unfortunately) that said the ratio was 3:1 trans women to trans men.

The filthy apologist pedophiles at Wikipedia say:

The DSM-IV (1994) says that roughly 1 in 30,000 assigned males and 1 in 100,000 assigned females seek sex reassignment surgery in the US. The most frequently quoted estimate of prevalence is from the Amsterdam Gender Dysphoria Clinic[41] The data, spanning more than four decades in which the clinic has treated roughly 95% of Dutch transsexual clients, gives figures of 1:10,000 among assigned males and 1:30,000 among assigned females. Though no direct studies on the prevalence of GID have been done, a variety of clinical papers published in the past 20 years provide estimates ranging from 1:7,400 to 1:42,000 in assigned males and 1:30,040 to 1:104,000 in assigned females.[42]

So the 3:1 ratio seems about right.

As for why that ratio exists... now that's an interesting question...

[Edit]Also, it's "transsexual", not "transgender". "Transgender" is just more gender studies nonsense.
