I was scrolling through instagram and an old clip of Cher on a talk show came up and the host asked her, “Do you think men are important”? And she answers “Like for what”. The women in the audience start laughing (and a couple men too) while most of the men are looking around awkwardly/uncomfortably.

Looking at the comments it didn’t surprise me to see the women supporting Cher but what did surprise me was the amount of comments/likes praising the men who laughed as ‘idols’ or ‘kings’.

I get the concept of laughing at yourself but this phenomenon of men-bashing for no reason is not something I can get behind. Men do most of the dirty/dangerous jobs and are primarily responsible for building the shelter we live in, maintaining the electricity, water, sewage treatment we take for granted, so I think the answer to the hosts’ question is pretty obvious.

I’m known to be a pretty serious person I’m just curious why I need to laugh or ‘be chill’ at a comment I don’t find funny (and frankly insulting) If that’s what it takes to be seen as attractive then I’m perfectly fine being unattractive. Maybe It’s seen as ‘punching up’ because the primary narrative is women are victims (which in some contexts they are) but I’ve never bought into that concept as it allows people to be jerks without any repercussions/responsibility.

Thoughts?
