We’ve both received approval at work for our vacation to visit my home town this spring! He’s been telling all his coworkers and friends how excited he is to meet my family and get to eat “real barbecue” — it’s super cute and makes me so happy. Home for me is about 2000 miles away. When he realized I haven’t been back in 5 years he decided we should go there instead of the cruise we had been talking about. I come from a big southern family and he’s only ever met my step-mom, so it means a lot that he wants to spend his one week of vacation, as he put it “seeing the town and people that produced such an awesome girlfriend” 😍

I also found out that he “sneakily” asked my best friend if she knew my ring size a few days ago! (She didn’t, so she ended up asking me) I don’t think he knows I know, and I’m trying not to get my hopes up for anything specific, but... -squeals excitedly-

Everyone seems to be having a similarly busy time at the moment! We've both been SWAMPED at work, but me a bit less so than my husband. He works so hard, so I'm trying to be his soft place to land, extra much at this time.

I've been doing my best to minimise the amount of decisions he has to make in a day - because he definitely gets decision-fatigued at this sort of time! So instead of asking what he wants for breakfast/lunch/dinner, I just make something that I know he likes. Maybe it's not what he's perfectly in the mood for, but it saves him having to think about it & decide.

We've been maintaining our two-date-a-week habit, and it's good! To keep it frugal, we have been doing small, cheap dates - coffee + a pastry to share, or kebabs in the park, or a drive to a lake to watch the birds. 'Date night' doesn't have to be a) a production, or b) at night! It just needs to be you and your partner, looking cute for each other, and paying attention, not getting distracted by the world.

We're engaged :) Not telling our families until after the holidays, though, because we don't want to be the center of attention. And earlier today I played with my new tablet today and saw that he took the effort to try and find the background I use for literally everything. (He didn't use it because it ended up weirdly sized and pixelated, but he found a similar one.)

It has been a crazy few weeks in our lives, a mix of really good, really bad, and just plain busy! And I am just so grateful for M! I really admire his strength, determination and problem solving abilities. Since it's been so high stress I've been making sure to avoid doing anything to increase it, as well as going out of my way to do little surprises when I can. But mostly I am really getting the hang of giving space even though my natural instinct when I am upset, stressed, etc is to seek companionship.

One really nice thing that we did in the midst of the crazy was watch the most recent season of Longmire. It's the final season and WOW it was so good! Literally every second of these last 10 episodes was exactly what was needed to wrap everything up. I highly recommend the show to anyone looking for an engaging show that steers clear of any identity politics and recent events and just tells an awesome story with realistic characters. We've dropped so many shows in the past 2 years because the agenda was either annoying or angering and it's just nice to not want to roll your eyes at a joke or rant at a plot line!

My SO has been very stressed this week and has had to cancel some plans. I've been feeling lonely cos he's been sleeping a lot, but I haven't complained and entertained myself without feeling annoyed. Its felt good to support him and bring him food in bed when he wasn't well enough to get up. He initiated watching a series about cowboy times, and instead of complaining that I don't like cowboy movies I STFU and watched without complaining and am now enjoying it. I like that he gets movies etc to share with me and I am blessed to spend the quality time together.

We are travelling, there was something I wanted from the duty free and I told my husband about it, but didn't insist on getting it. When we were finally ablut to board I didn't bring it up again. At the next layover he surprised me by buying something in the same category, not the same thing but a version of it he thought was better suited. Very happy I didn't push it and gave him room give me something. :)

I’ve been working on my style statement and beauty/skincare lately, and we both had our seasonal color analysis done recently! He listens to me rambling excitedly about this, and asks about it when I don’t. He likes how efficiently our shopping goes now and he gets excited to pick our colors bc as a red/green colorblind person the brights stick out to him handily. He likes his new wardrobe that we are building too and like ugh sooo hot lol He’s also started complimenting me with words directly from my style statement and I seriously can’t believe this is real. So fairy tale lol

Our Christmas festivities start this week and this past weekend he asked for time alone! I’m so jazzed about this, about him directly telling me what he wants to happen. It makes me feel so very trusted.

I’m interviewing some intern candidates at his alma mater so we are gonna go to the strip there the night before with my friend and her new beau and my man is super excited! As am I. The girl we are visiting, our other best friend and I are actually all now dating guys with the same first name. Creepy and serendipitous (knock on wood), huh?

It was so funny to see him mop the floor the other day :) He wielded the mop as a weapon, and the floor seemed like an opponent. The cleaning movements did not come naturally haha.

I won't get into details, but I'd fallen into a bit of a hamstering thing and gotten very upset and kept it to myself but was worrying about all kinds of things.

My husband managed to just cut through it by asking "i don't know what's up, but we keep sniping at each other, something's wrong". He was very gentle about it, but made sure it was dealt with and reassured me beautifully.

without even recognising it. I am so, so grateful that my husband can notice when i'm going a little bit mad and just let me empty out all the worry!
