Weekly reflections with RPWi: 10/10/2016

Good: I set up a Chicago-style hot dog bar for my SO for dinner tonight since it's game three against the Giants - I thought it would be a nice little thing for him, but I couldn't find poppyseed hotdog buns or sport peppers at the grocery store. Also, my headshots that were originally going to happen a couple weeks ago are rescheduled for tomorrow, which is awesome because the breakout I was dealing with then has totally cleared up! That flood was good for something after all.

Bad: I can't think of anything actually bad right now. Unfortunately, I can think of some ugly...

Ugly: My lovely, stupid dog has taken to chewing on things at night or if he is left uncrated during the day. He has destroyed two pairs of my SO's shoes in the past month, including one that he bought after the first was destroyed. He's also chewed up my shoes and a pair of pointe shoes (which are not cheap). My SO was absolutely pissed when he woke up and discovered the shoes yesterday morning (rightfully so) so I have to train the dog to quit chewing shoes or the dog will no longer be welcome in the home. So I went to Petco yesterday and spent a ton of money on toys and so far he has been happy and occupied - like, obsessed occupied. Hopefully this trend continues and we don't lose anymore shoes. On top of that, my best friend is extremely ill. I don't want to elaborate on that further because reasons, but if anyone could offer prayers or good thoughts for her, that would be amazing. She has a very long road ahead of her.

Bonus: How to clean a microwave with vinegar. The smell of vinegar makes me ill, but holy buckets does it do a good job of cleaning. I could spend 5 times as long getting the same results with a magic eraser - or I could save my fingers and endure the smell.

Good: I finally had to tell my husband that we either need to have lower standards for meals, house cleaning, ect, or we need to be on the go less, because I'm just too overwhelmed with work and a household. He responded by making a rough meal planning, doing the grocery shopping, and insisting that I wait until he gets home so he can help make dinner. Last night, we cooked together for the first time since we bought the new house, and then ignored the dishes so we could spend some time together instead :)

Bad: I'm 23 (24 tomorrow!), and I have a bad hip. And this bad hip day is starting to look like a bad hip week :(

Ugly: I'm gaining weight. Just a little, slowly, but it's creeping. Granted, he's right there with me and doesn't seem to care, but still.

Protip! After I wipe my counters, while they're still damp, I like to run a paper towel over them. The slight wet and the paper towel pick up all the little grainy crumb bits that cloth rags tend to miss, for perfectly smooth, clean counters.

Good: Doctors are starting to discuss an end date for our hospital stay. Our littlest one has been in the hospital since July 19th but it looks like we'll be home by Halloween!

Bad: We're still in the hospital. My husband is starting to go stir crazy and is getting pressure from his boss to go back to work.

Ugly: All of this drama has really shown us who our friends are. I've been unpleasantly surprised at some people's true colors.

Bonus: I love my steam mop! No grungy bucket of water at the end :)

Good: We had an awesome date night last night with dinner and movies. We hadn't planned it beforehand but we had so much fun together.

Bad: Hubby is really sick today, he has been having cold lately, but we thought he was over it. Today however he had to leave from work and go to a doctor's to get some sick leave and antibiotics.

Ugly: I need to work on my discipline and productivity more. I'm having serious problems with procrastination and I'm not sure how I should start addressing it. Part of it is that I work from home, and I really miss my work community, plus it is way easier slack off at home that in the office. Right now, my only choise is to work from home though, so I need to grow a back bone apparently, lol. Easier said than done though, I'm seriously lazy person.

Good: My hurr is swangin and finally at a length I really like. I love it. I have maybe 3 more inches on all sides to reach my goal, so I'm thinking maybe by April I should be there :D

Bad:**** Hmm.....nothing really? I haven't been working out regularly since the temperature dropped. i'm annoyed by this. I decided to just work out in my room instead of walking to the gym.

Ugly: None.

Protip for Cleaning: Pay someone else to do it!! :D

Good: Had an awesome day with husband on Friday, just us two, we walked down by a river and visited a nice little shopping area nearby, got some winter clothes for hubs and I got a new sports bra. Had afternoon at home to Netflix and chill, it was ace <3 need to have more days as a couple I think, as well as family time.

Bad: Weather is so cold all of a sudden, I was freezing last night, need to check which radiators are on/off otherwise I will be huddled in a ball of blankets by time husband gets home. Also kinda tired from disturbed sleep because of cold.

Ugly: Daughter is super clingy to me, literally saying she doesn't want to have me out of sight. It's making bedtime take ages, so couple time in evening is lost. Husband managed to settle her last night, so may be improving.

Bonus: Nappy (diaper) washing powder is pretty awesome at getting stains out of other things (not delicates).

For persistent smells using a spray bottle of distilled vinegar followed by a scrub with a microfibre cloth is good way to get rid of them.

This is the third time I type this out grr. So short version.

Good: not a bitch, still not smoking

bad: gained a couple lbs

ugly: nada

protip: for ceramic pans, scrub with a baking soda/water paste to get back non stickiness.

edit: Just realized weight gain may be due to not smoking. DAMMAT!

Good: Went back to work and saw some people I haven't seen for a long time. It was great to catch up!

Bad: There was frost last night, so some stuff in the garden (such as the basil) is pretty much ruined.

Ugly: There is something for the house that needs to be done before November 1st, which requires calling to different places. Mid-September my husband told me he would do it, and to leave it to him. Last week, I was worried sick that he wouldn't do it in time, so I started nagging him about it. He got angry and told me to stop nagging him, that he knows what he's doing, etc. Yesterday, he told me he asked me a few questions budget-wise, then told me he would call to all the places today or tomorrow. Once again, I was worrying for nothing and hamstering away.

Bonus: To remove ink stains on fabric, soak the stained fabric in milk overnight.

ETA: Yesterday, for us Canadians, it was Thanksgiving, not Columbus Day. :P

Good: It's been getting cold enough to justify soup & bread! I made a series of awesome rolls for the freezer, and some pumpkin muffins for J's work group. This ended up with him coming home with an official letter from his department offering me $75/week to supply some kind of "casual Friday snack." With me not working, this is the BEST!

Bad: I've been extra forgetful lately, right down to going to the store for lentils and completely forgetting to pick them up. I'm using Wunderlist daily now, but I keep forgetting to add things to the list!

Ugly: Our roommate is leaving at the end of the month, which is a slap in the face. J isn't worried about us financially, so I am trying not to be, but I tend to freak out about money. He's never been poor, and I've never been financially safe. Reminding myself not to completely tweak out about spending money is proving difficult. We have a budget, and I stick to it, but I am still concerned about us covering that extra $600/month. That's so much.
