My (22F) fiance (28M) texted me earlier this morning saying he was drunk and had just snorted adderall with his brother. I work 12 hour night shifts as a nurse and the nights I'm not home can be hard on him. He feels lonely. I have a new job that is 8 hour shifts lined up so we'll work the same hours, that starts the third week of February, and he is very happy about it, he knows I'm working towards being home more.

I know he has occasionally used drugs recreationally in college at parties but to my knowledge he hasn't used any until now. I didn't outright say what the hell, why are you doing drugs, I just said I hope they're safe at home and I'll be there when I get off at 6.

How can I address this in a graceful manner? His abusive father is terribly addicted to prescription opioids and is an alcoholic and he's always said he won't end up like his dad. His brother is borderline alcoholic and is depressed and has low self esteem but refuses to get help. I am not okay with him using drugs. I could get past marijuana occasionally, but abusing other substances goes too far. He doesn't use tobacco and has a couple beers on Friday or Saturday night, I've had no reason to suspect him using anything else until now.

Just for reference we've been together 2.5 years and have a wonderful, healthy relationship. We haven't had any major bumps so far, currently live together, and have the date set for this June.
