I had a sincere heart to heart with my husband, about being upset by the way he was joking about me in front of others. I knew it was harmless fun, but it didn't make me feel good.

I was careful to choose a calm, quiet time to talk about it, days after the event. I did my best to use 'I' statements and non-threatening language, and to only talk about the way I felt. I didn't accuse him of anything, I just described the situation and how it made me feel.

His response was to get defensive and deny it; that it was all in my head.

This hurt me even further as I had come to him openly and with vulnerability.

What did I do wrong?
