Is makeup dishonest?

It depends. I wouldn't consider wearing some lipstick and mild eyeliner with mascara to be lying anymore than I would consider hair gel and masculine facial hair on a baby faced guy to be lying.

My rule of the thumb is: if you are afraid or ashamed to take off your makeup, then there's a high chance it you're wearing it to mislead.

Too much make-up: guys would think you're a clown, or perhaps a geisha in the making.

No make-up at all: depends on your general skin care and complexion. (Don't stay too long in the sun without protection)

Moderate use of make-up: so long as it only accentuates your beauty, then it's actually fine.

I believe makeup should emphasise your features, not change them completely. I know girls who look like an 8 or a 9/10 with makeup but in reality are only a 4 or a 5/10. I usually just wear a bit of mascara, a little bit of foundation/tinted moisturiser and a little blush. My Fiancé thinks I look almost the same with makeup as I do without it.

Makeup is used to enhance your appearance, not deceive. I, myself, stick to concealer, subtle eye makeup, a little blush, and lipstick. The same goes for clothing. Would you go without a bra, because it gives the impression you have higher and firmer breasts? If you're on this forum, I'd assume not. The lies would be found in Botox and padded bras.

As far as the lies you mentioned for men, I don't think all of them compare to those of appearance. Lying about height might be comparable to expensive eyelash extensions, but employment and income are much more serious issues, probably best compared to the exact same lies from women.

All that being said, if you feel you're being dishonest, just go without or use minimal concealer and lip balm. You could even add in mascara and look completely natural.

I don't think that makeup is lying because no man is going to see you with makeup and assume that you just look like that all the time. With that having been said, I'm sure there's some man somewhere who has [hilariously/sadly] had that misconception, but that probably rules him out of your consideration anyway.

I don't think so at all because makeup isn't making a concrete statement about how you look. Instead, it's saying that this is how you look with makeup.

To give an analogy, if I wear a shirt that fits me well, I'm obviously going to look different without a shirt on. It's not worn to make someone think that I look different than I really do because anyone who sees me in it should be aware that I have the shirt on.

After looking at some of the other comments, on a more fundamental level, I don't know that it's possible to wear makeup to mislead or deceive someone unless you're pulling some real CGI type of stuff to cover up a scar or something like that.

I've had men tell me they prefer me with makeup and without makeup, and so I do my best to be attractive for my partner. This can mean contouring where the genetic lottery wasn't won, if that's how he wants to see me. I've definitely dated guys who want me to look my best. That being said, I'm naturally pretty and take good care of my skin, so I can go without makeup and still be considered attractive. I prefer to do makeup, because in the city I live in, it's the norm to wear makeup, but I try to be flexible about it, and I never feel like I'm lying, because my look is flexible, and even the amount of makeup I'd wear for a special event isn't a permanent mask.

I learned that make-up and a woman's willingness to wear it is a great sign of her opinion of you. If a woman doesn't maintain appearance for you and wittholds sex then I've learned to just walk out the door (I learned the hard way, btw. Not proud of this).

That said, make- up is fine. It requires a bit of finesse and artistry when its done well, even.

No, I just see it as trying to be your best self. I wear a little bit all the time, even to bed! Why should I get prettied up in the morning for strangers I don't care about, then come home and take off all my makeup around my guy? So after I take a shower at night, I put on lipstick and a dab of powder, sometimes mascara, so I look at least as decent as I do during the day, lol.

I treat my skin well, sun cream, sensitive facial cream, coconut oil and sometimes another cream for the eye zone. The only makeup I wear occasionally is lipstick, nothing more. I used to wear eyeliner but I look nicer with a fresh face.
I would say less is more, although I like to see the effort on full complex makeup it wears the face out in my opinion.

Use of makeup is so common nowadays, I don't think anyone can reasonably say it is 'dishonest'... The vast majority of women look better with some amount of makeup, be it simply concealer or eye makeup/contouring/etc.

I don't think the use of makeup is at all comparable to a man lying about his height or income. IMO, it is more akin to dying one's hair, etc...

It depends on how much. That's why I think skin care is more important than makeup. If you're uncomfortable running errands without makeup, you probably rely on it, too much.

It's so annoying when I'm at work (bank) and some lady drops off her deposit right before her workout and is like, "I know I look hideous without makeup on." (or something to that effect). I don't wear makeup every day.

Depends on the situation.

One on one time with your man? Yes it's dishonest, you are supposed to open yourself up to him, and show him yourself truthfully. It's not like he won't know you're wearing makeup either, which makes it even worse.

Social event like wedding/fancy dinner out? Makeup should be worn just as a politeness thing.

As someone who's pretty skilled with makeup, this is what I think. I know I can totally deceive everyone with my makeup, but I would never show my boyfriend a face that isn't mine.

I really really wouldn't say that most women look like a completely different person with makeup on. You really need to be wearing a LOT for that to happen, no? Clothes wise, we should be wearing flattering clothes or our birthday suit all the time anyway. I would never say unflattering clothes were the "real" me.

I don't think so. Very few people, male or female, are going to be super hot all the time. Even if you're really hot there's not reason not to wear makeup to look better.
