What are a wife's responsibilities?

Personally, I think it honestly depends on the workload of the two. If the husband works more than the wife, the wife should do the majority of the housework. If the roles are reversed, husband should do more. Someone working 40+ hours/week shouldn't have to do a 50/50 split on chores with someone who works part time or who is a stay at home spouse or parent.

My husband works full time. For the most part, I am a stay at home wife. I have a part time job during the school year (about 12-15 hrs/week) & I attend art shows & craft fairs selling my artwork (schedules vary) & farmer's market in the summer. There's no way in hell I'm going to ask my husband to split the chores with me, especially since he now works a mill job that works him 7 days a week, with the only days off being requested days. I do all the cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc. It's my job to keep the house & look good for him. The only chores that are "his" are mowing the lawn & weed whacking. I will occasionally ask for help, like if we're having company, to make the house presentable, and he'll pick up a little slack when I'm sick. In the house, I only expect him to get his dirty clothes in the hamper & garbage in the trash can.

What's funny is the rant you often hear from feminists about house wives not being free, being under their husbands' boots. As a SAHW, I'm freer than I've ever been! As long as I keep the home, feed my husband, have sex with him & am my happy, fun self, he lets me do pretty much whatever I want. I get to pursue my art career, go shopping, spend time with my mom & bestie, and... I don't have to go to a job I hate & deal with shitty people just to prove to men & other women I can take care of myself. There's absolutely nothing wrong with working, being educated, or anything else as a married woman. I'm just dispelling the myth that all SAHW are slaves.

I'm the end, every relationship/marriage is different. As long as the work distribution is agreeable to both parties, then whatever floats your boat. I'm more traditional in my marriage views, & thus believe that it is primarily the responsibility of the wife to keep the home, be soft & loving to her man, fulfill his sexual needs, & be the primary caretaker of children while the husband to protects & provides for the family. Myself, I'm so happy to be a stay at home wife, because it's what I've wanted my whole life. I love taking care of our home (most days, lol) & I love taking care of & being sweet to my husband, who definitely deserves it.

Responsibility means that it's incumbent upon you to get it done or to prevent it from happening.

Every relationship entails responsibility, otherwise it's an unhealthy dynamic which will cause trouble. The question is about the wife's responsibility and that's what I'll answer. Here's a partial list of what a wife's responsibility should be. Unfortunately, with the laws today, a wife essentially has no responsibility at all. This is one of the reasons why so many men are walking away from marriage altogether but that's a subject for a different post. This list is in no particular order.

To be his soft landing.
To be his top cheerleader.
To treat him with respect.
To follow his lead.
To yield to him.
To be sexually available and enthusiastic.
To be loving and kind towards him.
To keep a clean home.
To cook him healthy meals.
To wash, fold and organize the clothing.
To stand by him in support, in private and public.
To never badmouth him.
To never engage in gossip about him.

I think it is the responsibility of the wife to assert her own boundaries (for example, I can't work while the children are young) and express her wants and desires without expectation (no matter how exorbitant). I think it is the man's responsibility to take care of and protect the wife. He can ONLY do this when he knows the way, so the wife's job is to shine a light on the path. As Laura Doyle says, the wife's wants are the north star in the relationship, every man out there wants to make his wife happy. This in turn makes him happy and feel like a big strong man.

I highly recommend Laura Doyle's new book, "The Empowered Wife". It has changed my marriage for the way, way better. She is the same author of "The Surrendered Wife" which I understand is the basic RPW primer.
