My biggest rule is I never talk bad about my man to someone else. If he’s upset me he’s the person I speak to about it. No venting and getting it off my chest. Most “guy friends” a girl has don’t have platonic feelings towards her, most girlfriends are quick to sabotage. There’s a bit of a caveat if you manage to befriend some RPW but it’s not easy.

Also addressing him directly will tell you a lot. My ex boyfriend was awful, I didn’t need to hear anyone else’s opinions on him because he did a great job of telling me himself how awful he was in his reaction to my upset (and if anything I found people excused and enabled his behaviour). My current partner can hear he did something that upset or bothered me, listen like an adult, apologise and not do it again.

I don’t have formal rules, but our principles are basically:

Keep healthy boundaries when it comes to any opposite sex friendships. Even platonically intimate friendships are for same sex friends only.
Listen intently and take an interest in what the other is saying. Don’t talk at one another and don’t try to make the other person engage in interests that are truly unappealing to the other party- ex: listening to a sports or a fashion program if one person hates it— instead enjoy these things in your independent leisure time.
Speak respectfully when you are having an issue and practice discretion when talking to friends/family.

This is an interesting question. I’ve never made a list of rules to follow. I suppose I’ve never been interested in texting or hanging out with other guys when I’m seeing someone so I never thought to make that a “rule.”

eta: Ok, one rule is I try to think about deliberately being respectful because I don’t live in a very respectful society so I feel like it takes a little extra effort to make sure I’m not being inadvertently disrespectful.

Follow his lead. Don't argue with a man. Be clear on what you want but if he doesn't meet your expectations, don't nag and complain. Do not talk to other men outside of courteous politeness. Allow your husband to address people first when you're out in public. Allow him to open the door, or introduce you to people you don't know.

My set of rules:

No relationships with other men beyond being polite.

Never argue, disagree, or do anything that may be seen as disrespectful in front of our friends and colleagues.

Sex is always yes unless there's a good reason for no.

Dress appropriately and not too revealing.

If we fight and he gets angry, I drop it until he cools down.

No girls' nights out unless it's girls only event.

I can add more, but this is off the top of my head.

My best friend is a man (since we were 14) so I don’t agree on the no hanging out with other guys alone.

If you cheat, we are over. I have self respect.

My husband watching porn is perfectly fine with me because it doesn’t interfere with our sex lives. But…No subscribing to OnlyFans. No following THOTy Instagram girls.

He usually is the one driving so he asks I stay off my phone in the car as much as possible and be present with him.

Great question! I do think my boyfriend and I are on the little more strict side:

His rules: no skirts on the shorter side, dont hang out with guys, can't accept food from other guy friends, no going in the military, no coloring hair, no posting on social media(I don't own any of the social media apps anyways), no clothes with lace on, shorts at the beach, etc

My rules: No porn, take care of me, kind of 'make up' for restricting me with your rules.

Not all of these are talked about, but its read between the lines

Other than the obvious stuffs like maintaining healthy boundaries with opposite gender and mutual respect, these are some rules in my r/s:

No watching porn/only fans (I hate the porn industry so..)

No following/liking/commenting/DMing random girls on Instagram including influencers

No opposite gender ‘best friend’

No clubbing or equivalent without each other being there

No cannabis, LSD cocaine or heroin smoking on my property. No motorcycles unless he is a food delivery professional. Do not wear t shirts with fetish content. If I find out he's a dealer or prostitute or find gang insignia and drug paraphernalia that's a hard next.

Those are dealbreakers for a man.

My (wife) rules: (most are not explicit just learned over time)

-No criticism in front of others -Keep a peaceful environment inside the home which means no snapping or causing arguments when he comes home -Certain male friendships are ok (if they go way back, there is 0 romantic history, they are also married and my husband has met him etc and we generally hang out as couples). No new male friendships unless it's a couples thing

Well I think you should always have one person to vent to or journal the thing about venting is I don’t have to let the person I vent to know that is my piece of shit I am venting about and the person is not allowed to talk shit about my piece of shit.
