My husband works for Comcast. He started out as a tech a few months before we got married, and now he’s the supervisor for his shop. He’s been there for 17 years, and the benefits are awesome. Plus we get free cable and internet, so when we factor that in, the pay winds up being very comfortable for us.

Oh, EXACT same story here. He does b2b sales in the meantime. Base is only like 50k or something but OTE is far higher. Has your husband been applying mainly to software sales? That market is way oversatured at the moment and pivoting will probably help.

(If anyone remembers me saying my husband had started a second business to give us personal cash flow late 2022, it was doing magnificently quickly until that niche market made a sharp turn. He decided on something more stable after the baby was born late last year, hence the current b2b sales.)

If he has good experience, he could always apply for adjunct positions or admissions counselor at a university, some adjuncts are BA required masters preferred if you have a lot of experience in that area (for him maybe business class or real estate) and he can be a recruiter for a college with his experience for sure. Just has to be good with talking to people

What’s wrong with commission only jobs? You will never have more freedom and flexibility than with this scenario. I work in sales, and sales is one of the most lucrative, flexible jobs you can have. Sounds like a good fit for someone building a business on the side!

Saw your comment below about lead times. There are some sales jobs with short sales cycles for sure!

Fleet mechanic for a utility company. Pay and benefits are excellent for our area. Plus his skills allow him to do side jobs that are easily a couple hundred for a few hours of work.

He’s the director of a sports broadcast!! Which means he travels a lot :’) but when I watch the games it’s like we’re there together ! He’ll throw little inside jokes in here and there and it always makes me smile

EDIT: The medical industry is what I used to supplement our income when he was still in school, pharmacy technician licenses only take a few months to get and require no schooling for a decent paying job!! He got this job straight outta college (I’m a couple years older) so we got rly lucky :)

Mine is in a STEM field, it doesn't sound like it would be a good match for your husband.

I would consider applying to some adjunct professor positions at community college. It's not much money but it's not much hours. Easy to tack onto another job, qualifications are usually just a bachelor's degree in a relevant field to the class you want to teach.

Full text: My husband is currently building a business that is on track to do VERY well. However in the meantime we still need income. He has tons of sales experience, bachelors in business, manager experience, and real estate. He’s applied to hundreds of jobs and either no one’s getting back to him or they are only commission (because of sales).
