I’ve been contemplating this issue on-and-off. Is it ever appropriate to take issue with your SO’s opposite-sex friendships; specifically, maintaining friendships (through Skype, Snapchat, and other social media) with women he briefly dated?

I’m debating what the RP perspective on this might be.

On one hand, I have total faith in my SO and have no fears regarding his fidelity on any level. I know that our relationship is his first priority and if I expressed concern over these, he would cut off contact with them immediately— BUT, I would pay the price by coming across as controlling and insecure, and ultimately less loving and attractive.

So my instinct, based on “Laura Doyle”-type principles, would be to leave it alone, recognize that my issue may stem from a need for control, and let him decide whether these friendships are worth maintaining.

On the other hand, and perhaps more objectively, I’m aware that some principles of RP theory might suggest that he’s not completely over these women (‘oneitis’ comes to mind). In other words, this may be a red flag that I’m not taking very seriously due to my trust for him.

In addition, some women on this sub might argue that this is a boundary that needs to be clearly established for the future, regardless of whether I feel that there’s a current danger to our relationship.

Figured I’d open it up as a point of discussion. Is this a “boundary” for you? How would you best communicate these concerns, if you chose to voice them?
