I awoke to the sound of screaming.
I'd fallen asleep on the sofa a little early that night. Working in the garden and around the house had taken their toll, not to mention fucking her silly a couple of times. My muscles ached pleasantly, and my consciousness was just a bit fuzzy around the edges - the languorous after-effects of a hard day's labor. I'd fallen asleep with my head in her lap, but she wasn't there anymore. She was in the bedroom. And she was frantically calling my name.
"Help! Heeellllp! _whistlerrrr, help!"
I sprang from the sofa and charged into the bedroom, trying to shake the cobwebs from my awareness. I found her bent over next to the wall, crying, shaking, still screaming for help.
"WHAT HAPPENED?" I roared, a little louder than necessary.
"My back! I can't get up! It hurrrrrrts!"
I grabbed her shoulders and hauled her writhing body upright, then slowly lowered her onto my two twin mattresses stacked atop one another. The minimalist bed I'd always thought of as pleasantly spartan suddenly seemed inadequate, but I brushed that thought from my mind as I tried to help her achieve some semblance of comfort. She curled on her side, shaking with tears.
I took a breath, trying to quell the adrenaline surging through me. There was no outside danger, no fight or flight. It was time for cool-headed analysis.
"Tell me what happened, sweetheart."
She had bent over, I learned, to pick up a pillow - one of those ludicrous back injuries you like to think only happens to the elderly or morbidly obese. But she was in severe pain, and it wasn't getting better. I helped her into my car and hauled ass for the nearest ER.
This happened to me a couple of weeks ago, and my girl is still recovering. The ER loaded her up on diazepam, hydrocodone, and cyclobenzaprine; I got her home just in time to leave for work in the morning, and when I came back a few hours later to check on her I discovered she'd had a bad reaction to the diazepam. She lost consciousness, and I called paramedics, but thankfully all she needed was food and more rest.
She was nearly immobilized for the first week, and relegated to a shuffling walk for the second. All her household duties - the majority of the shopping, cooking, cleaning, and laundry, not to mention working in the garden we'd been planting this year - were on standby as her back recovered. She slept on the sofa because my minimalist bed was too low to the ground; she couldn't get up unassisted.
I had to manifest all the Beta provisioning qualities I could muster during this time. Do I inherently detest the sight of my girl - anyone, for that matter - laying around all day, not accomplishing anything? Yes. Did it chafe to constantly direct my time around someone else's needs, sacrificing my plans to ensure her recovery? Of course. But I did it, because she's mine and I take care of her, and that is how this works.
This was one of those trigger moments we all sometimes have. There's an event: a conversation, a promotion, a tragedy, an injury, a spiritual revelation, a personal goal realized, a dream shattered on the rocks of this world. A catalyst to the evolution of our manhood. These moments, these triggers, move us forward along our journey toward the perfection of Frame. My girl's injury and subsequent recovery highlighted a hundred tiny details, insufficiencies in my Frame, ways I must improve. It also helped me realize that caretaking is not inherently a Beta quality. Part of my Alpha frame is the vigilant guardianship of this girl that I have claimed as mine. This responsibility, this custodial masculinity, is as far from Beta-provisioning as can be. It's the supplicative nature of Beta-provisioning that makes it a Beta quality; a dominant Frame is always a dominant Frame.
My point in sharing this with the Red Pill community is this: do not be afraid to be a caretaker when required. Hold fast to your dominant manhood, and never shy away from taking another step down the road of your evolving masculinity. Don't worry about diminishing your Alpha Frame by becoming a provider; it certainly didn't diminish mine.
She's mostly recovered now, and the drama of work and life has filled her mind once again. After she realized I wasn't interested in a minute-by-minute recounting of this drama, she poutily called her mother for a gabfest. I let her talk for a few minutes, and then I did what is in my nature: I went to the bedroom, undressed, and strode out to where she was chatterboxing - stroking my cock and giving her The Look. Five minutes later, when I made her stop blowing me long enough to remind her not to re-injure her back, she just rolled her eyes at me and went for the deepthroat.
Alpha Frame intact.
