Its hard to answer this question without having an ego bias or an affirmation bias. I got bad grades therefore im the victim! That is an easy trap to fall into.

That being said in my personal experience men seem more open to divergent though then woman. If you write an essay that has a thesis that is contradictory to the class, men are going to be more open to your opinion.

Absolutely, I was one of four guys in a class of 30 for biology in school; and while we did pretty well - the 'dumb shit but tries really hard' girls got consistently higher marks. Everything from grades, to feedback, to assistance and even draft work suggestions were worse than girls we were smarter than.

If I handed in an assignment late, -5%. If a girl handed in an assignment but cried a few tears and blamed the computer, no penalty. Her sexism subtly showed just with her interaction with the class and how she would let girls get away with anything and yet the guys would be reprimanded if we did so much as laugh.

My friend that I sat next to in class was dux of the school, and I was valedictorian - yet our grades were just above average in biology when compared to arbitrary marking on 'practical performance' where you get graded on attempt and enthusiasm, not results.

That's life boys. I hate repeating it, but men are disposable. Society is designed to challenge our gender the most. It's modern natural selection. Either work on becoming a winner, or don't. You got to wade through the shit going upstream if you want to make your mark. Your choice. Well that or you can run over to MRA and bitch about it. But still, it wont make you any more of a winner.

I had female teachers that gave me grades depending on how much of a submissive ass kisser I was. Long story, but I know this because I tested them by altering my behavior and not my performance. Didn't have that problem with any of my male teachers.

There are studies that confirm this tendency. I'll link them when I have time.

In college the female professors would give good grades to very charming boys. You practically had to GAME them during the lecture.

For my senior thesis i acted like a very shy boy and the professor was always like "oh you remind me of my little boy" and you give them some puppy dog eyes and act all innocent. Hmmm we could definitely start a discussion on how to get better grades from female teachers!

However i think you have to calibrate depending on the teacher. My pharmacology professor was a huge equality and female feels teacher. You have to agree with her how to treat a woman ideals.

For example she would say how her husband doesnt reply to her in the car and then i told her "He should at least go Um...Okay...Yess to her" and she was like "Oh my god you are so right!"

Then again maybe it wasn't my manipulation. I graduated with honors so maybe it was skill. However, on a final note yeah they always did help girls more than boys. They shunned weak male students.

I was a cute and polite boy and got some benefits out of this. Not from all female teachers, from some.

Once a teacher called me in. She pointed out an error I made on a test. She suggested I correct this, because "I surely know this". I did and got a higher mark.

Things like this are harmful. School isn't as much about grades and learning as it is about overcoming your inner weaknesses through will and work. You are going to forget all the memorized stuff anyway.

I had a teacher in grade 10 who made it a point to say she would never give a boy a higher mark than a girl.

Not a single boy in that class ever got a grade higher than a B.

Most of girls consistently got A- to A+, provided they'd hand in their work.

She was very proud of herself as a feminist. Second-wave feminism if I were to pin down what views she'd express.

She'd often talk about it as part of her class lecture, along with other "facts" like how homosexuality could only happen because of sexual abuse, and tons of other messed up non-sense.

That's why high school programs like the International Baccalaureate are so important. Papers are sent elsewhere in the world and marked with only the student code on it, so there's no chance of bias.

I'll be honest. I was a grader in maths at college (a while back). Many of the girls would inevitably fail the class. I'm talking about 11/100 fail. It was a weed-out class. Many of the men came with prior experience, while most of the girls thought it would be an easy introduction to advanced maths. I graded objectively. I wasn't in charge of submitting final grades, but I noticed that the professor would give Ds to the girls who were in danger of failing, but gave Fs to the men in the same situation. The girls in danger of failing begged us for leniency, while most of the men just took the F like a boss. I guess the lesson is: the squeakiest, prettiest wheel gets the grease

Female teachers can be manipulated. As emotional creatures, you simply appeal using emotion instead of logic to get a good grade. In my experience I've never been discriminated against for being a boy, but I also kept on the good side of my teachers too.

I always knew that when I was at school, but , among many other friends, didn't say a thing because it was considered the “standard procedure.” When you get used to an unfair treatment it becomes normal.

I had an English teacher that was a complete radical feminist and hated any guy. I was failing her class and switched classes, i passed my other class with flying colors. She told the class once that, "Ladies, all guys will be stupid and will become useless in your life time. Boys, its inevitable, you will be lazy and stupid your entire life." She got away with it since she was in a union. I showed her with getting a bachelors in cs and making twice what she makes.

University course work, bust balls to get my assignment in on time.

One girl I knew handing it in like 8 weeks late, laughs to me about it saying she does it all the time and all she needs to do is flutter her eyelashes to get her own way.

Not only that she was largely plagiarising her bf who was in the same class. She would have his work plus 2 months to hand in. Drove me mad.

Not particularly. I was one of those studious Asian kids whom the teachers had no choice but to give As and A+s.

However, one case stands out. I wrote a paper on the merits of legalizing prostitution. It was extremely well-written. I had plenty of research and evidence. I only got 80% on it.

Now you may think 80% is a good grade, but I've always gotten 85%-95% on essays that were much more poorly written and with less time spent on them.

It was clear I only got the grade because she didn't agree with it.

Most of my female teachers gave me fair marks, but I wasn't the most intimidating guy and I did put a lot of work into school and showed that I cared. There was one exception, a teacher that clearly hated guys. From what I hear she did go through a messy divorce, so that may have something to do with it.

No, I don't feel like I ever experienced gender bias in grades. My experience in high school and college was that men got the lowest grades, and the highest grades and women were closer to the middle, in general. I obviously don't know everyone's grades, but out of the top 1% of my HS, I can only imagine 1 or 2 girls that I'd bet money were in there (out of 800 kids) and I knew pretty much all the smart kids. That being said, all the idiots were usually male as well. There was dumb girls, but they'd usually be smart enough to barely pass while almost everyone I knew that got sent to the alternate school were guys.

With one of my teachers, the single biggest predictor of your grade was your gender. Every girl had a B or A. Every boy had no higher than a B and usually, at best, a C. Yes, I checked.

I had a C despite my final grade being the third highest in the class.

i always got an easier time from attractive female teachers. it was the post wall bitchy ones i neglected to put any effort in for. for humanities classes i'd change my thesis based on the teacher's haircut; male with long hair it's anti-capitalist counter culture shit, female with short hair gets tired old mid-70's feminist tropes. if i had a teach who fit into the image of traditional gender stereotype then i'd take the work seriously and try to come up with something original.

I think the potential for BS grades is one of the reasons I preferred math and science. English essays always felt like junk to me because they could just randomly give you whatever they wanted for whatever reason. However, for the most part I never noticed an issue with this, but then I wouldn't have even known to look for it so who knows.

There is one specific thing that I remember really pissing me off that might be an example of this. In 6th grade we had to invent (draw) and "disaster resistant house". I rarely got into art stuff (too subjective, not really my thing) but for some reason I decided I wanted to put more effort into this particular thing so I spent a lot of time coloring it just right, blah blah blah. Well I ended up getting a B on the project. To me this was just so much bullshit. 1) it was a silly art project that couldn't have been that serious in the first place and 2) I actually put a lot of effort into it. For either or both of those reasons, there was no justifiable reason for that B, except the woman was a bitch and didn't like me.

This actually happened to me, but only with one female teacher (that I recall). It was ridiculously obvious what she was doing. My marks were much lower even though a female friend had higher marks for the same answers. On the other hand, I was a fuckwad in class sometimes so thats pretty much why she did it

Experienced this in my high school accounting class. I was quite the keener in high school, and was surprised to find out that despite knowing my grade prior to a final and her commenting (to the entire class) that my grade on said final was the highest in the class...my mark went down BELOW what I was going in with. The teacher was a known feminist, though. Back then I was too beta to complain.

In terms of university, I do not see much in terms of overt lenience. However, I notice more instant 'clicking' between female professors/students than male professors/students - then again, if you are an intellectual they will respect you regardless of your gender. TA's are a totally different story. My ex bragged about how during an exam she asked our TA a question and he just said "pick c" and walked away.

I think the point should be that whining won't help, studying/working harder will. Don't give them a reason to give you a lower grade.

In terms of the article...not much you can do except take it upon yourself to instill your child with a respectable work ethic (which asians tend to do) or be friendly to their teacher (dad used to subtly flirt with my female teachers during parent-teacher interviews)/switch schools. Grades don't matter until high school anyway.

Blaming your teacher for badmarks is not a good attitude. Even if you did have an unfair advantage, pull up your socks and try 150% harder than everyone else.
