Don't go picking fights though, only for self defence and to maintain frame when physically threatened, especially in front of a woman. nothing is more emasculating than getting threatened successfully by another man in front of a woman.
Don't ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever fight random dudes you don't know unless you absolutely have to. It's not worth getting your ass beat or killed to "maintain" frame or to look cool in front of girls. If some stupid ghetto thug wants to "emasculate" me in front of a girl then he can go ahead. He doesn't have anything to lose but I have to go back to my 401K and nice house. And if your girl thinks you're a bitch for not fighting random thugs on the street, then she has to get nexted too.
When you go into the regular world, you have no idea what kind of people you are running into. The skinny, scrawny guy that you think you can beat up might be a champion MMA fighter. The sloppy drunk talking shit may have a ton of his friends and that bar that you don't know are his friends. People may have guns or knives. Or that idiot that you are about to fight might be majorly depressed and/or crazy, and literally ready to kill somebody. You have no idea what you are getting into with fighting random people.
I agree that combat sports are good training, but DO NOT FIGHT PEOPLE UNLESS YOU ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO.
[–]floridaboss 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
lol at "she has to get nexted too." Not dealing with that bullshit by some dumb broad who thinks you have to fight everybody

AWALT. Every woman will be turned on by the display of willingness to fight and eventual domination . The good ones will recover quickly and say something like "that guy was an idiot. " And find some way to convince herself she went home with the true alpha (maybe brains are more desirable?)
[–]MuhTriggersGuise14 points15 points16 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Women want men that have fought, and can fight. But actually fighting random dudes typically has a huge fallout. Cops. Hospitals. Potential for charges (even if you were defending yourself, good luck proving it). Having to bail you out in the morning doesn't make panties drop.
I have fought and can fight, but I avoid physical conflict like the plague. I don't need a random charge fucking up my career, and I don't need to spend thousands of dollars on a lawyer to prove I wasn't an aggressor. Aside from that, if your girl knows you train and can fight, she'll think you're super alpha for not getting drawn into a conflict, despite likely winning.
Personally, I think OP writes like someone who hasn't fought much. Maybe he's trained in controlled environments like he's described, but real world fighting is a way bigger pain and the ass, and a way bigger potential for fallout than he seems to realize. I highly doubt he's done it much.

AWALT. Every woman will be turned on by the display of willingness to fight and eventual domination .
I don't give a fuck, i'm not going to risk getting injured or killed to impress a woman. I'm not that desperate.
[–]mytrpname 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
100% agreed, Abundance mentality says "Dont die for this one, there are 100s more" . I was using AWALT to address the reality that one might have to back down from a fight, and realize its no longer his turn, and find a new woman.
For ones spinning plates, it should be no big deal. Let the plate drop, there are plenty more.

In a bar, any guy with a beer bottle in his hand can kill you by slashing the side of your neck hard. I'm surprised they even serve anything in a glass in shit hole bars.
[–]aurelius_shrugs 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
They always have friends. Martial arts should teach situational awareness and deescalation.
[–]1Dark-Ulfberht5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Yes and no. There are times when you can judge a situation and make an educated roll of the dice.
I mean, if someone spits in my face, I'm going to break his jaw or dislocated his shoulder, unless I'm clearly outnumbered or I know he's carrying.
Everything is risk-reward. This is no different.
I agree with you, generally speaking, though. It's rarely worth the risk.
[–]MuhTriggersGuise6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
I know he's carrying
I CCW pretty frequently. I can guarantee you nobody knows I'm carrying. You're literally saying you're going to take action based on not knowing something you won't know. It's just stupid. If someone spits in your face, clean it off, and let the minimum wage bouncers deal with their dumb ass and move on with your awesome life. Don't get drawn into petty bullshit of people with nothing to lose, because they're huge losers.
I agree it's good to know to fight and defend yourself if you have to, but your example is not a case in which you have to. Plus how the fuck are you "avoiding fights" but somehow pissing someone off enough to spit in your face? It's bullshit.
[–]hightlevel -2 points-1 points0 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]TheRedPillMan10 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I kind of agree. It's not only the risk of getting beaten up but the risk of having to go to court. I mainly do martial arts for self defence and to subdue crazy people.

Rarely do you ever need to fight and if your reason for fighting is being "emasculated" then you've done the exact opposite of holding frame.
If you or your girl aren't being physically assaulted then you have nothing to fight over. Let people talk their shit. I've been through this a million times at bars , parties etc. Some guy sees you and gets jealous because of your girl or angry because nobody wanted to fuck him so he wants to ruin your night too.
[–]Ali0_o 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The fact that you think in terms of "proving it to me" proves my point. You aren't out there deescalating situations and only defending yourself; you're actively looking to prove how tough you are and what a badass you are. It's insecure as fuck and you sound like a dumb kid living in fantasy land. You're right, it is the internet, fuck off with all your tough talk, it looks really weak in this context.

Obviously you're 6 and don't understand the real world. When you put the moves on a man's girl in public while he's around, he's not gonna take the high road and be smart and dump the bitch, he will attack and fight you for 'disrespecting' because that is how he's been conditioned to react.
So, you go around telling dudes "she's not yours, it was just your turn" after they confront you for disrespecting them and you'll see what happens next. Take your alpha warlord fantasies somewhere else because you believe youre invincible while he believes you don't stand a chance against him and his buddies that are watching ready to jump u.

[–]draketton1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (16 children) | Copy Link
Ever been sucker punched for doing that?
When I read "moving in on some dude's woman" my mind immediately jumps to "sucker punch". I've seen that a few times. I've never seen it lead to a situation where the boyfriend is willing to have a fair fight over it.
[–]1Dark-Ulfberht0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (15 children) | Copy Link
Yep.
Been sucker punched by a jealous dude a couple times.
Th last time it happened, the punch didn't connect square so I could react fairly well. Double leg to scramble to mount. Ground and pound until bouncers removed me - this took like 10 seconds, I got in like two shots.
Went home with his woman. Banged.
One other time, similar situation, but the sucker punch knocked me into a table. He was off balance and crashed into me. We ended up in a clinch and it was broken up. Got kicked out of bar. No idea what happened to either the girl or the dude.
You win some; you lose some.

[–]1Dark-Ulfberht-1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Like I told the other dipshit: believe whatever you want, man.
It's the fucking internnet.
But think about it, you retarded fuck, bouncers tend to remove people after the fight starts. They're not fucking psychic. Also, they aren't separated from the parking lot by some magical forcefield.
Look, just because you are a pussy who can only fake dominance doesn't mean that the real thing doesn't exist.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
So angry and insulting for someone with nothing to prove. Reread what you wrote, none of that took place in a parking lot. And the fact that you claim they removed you two and just walked away proves you have no idea what you're talking about. They will never do that, that's a recipe for them and the bar getting sued, which is why they remove you and then wait there for the police. So there is no way you fought someone in the bar, got removed, and then got into a parking lot fight.
Go away keyboard warrior, let the adults talk.

Right. Like I said if someone has physically disrespected you then kick ass. But if someone's just talking shit then they really are the ones who look like pussies for not doing anything, not you.
Maybe my mentality is different on this because I was raised in a little harder of a town than most people. Talking shit where I grew up was a sure fire guarantee to get your ass kicked at best so I never saw or encountered many situations where someone was trying to publicly "emasculate" another person unless they were really about that life

I don't know why people down vote this advice when it comes up here.
At the end of the day, everything a woman uses to judge a guy's worthiness of a roll in the sack is just a proxy for the eons-old question: "can he subdue or kill his opponents*?
Learning to fight, really fight, cuts through all the bills hit trappings of our bitchass modern society and returns a man to the state of nature. Such experience cannot help but to seep out when interacting with women.

What are your stats(height, weight).I've heard that in Bjj the perfect fighting height is 5'11.
[–]1Dark-Ulfberht0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
There's no "perfect build." Different bodies have different advantages and drawbacks.
I'm short and kind of stocky: 5'9" and 175.
I'm good in the takedown, solid passing, and have decent top pressure. My full guard sucks, my reach is mediocre (important in grappling, not just striking) and I can't triangle for shit.
[–]tugsmugs 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Do you fight often ?Do you win more or lose ?Also-have you noticed obnoxious treatment from taller guys ?
I train about 4 days a week, 2 hour sessions, plus lifting and running.
I do grappling comps, but stopped striking a while back. I'm in my 30s now and don't want to deal with concussions or fuck my face up.
I also haven’t been in a bar fight in years. I go to much less rough places than I did in my 20s as a single military dude.
[–]1Dark-Ulfberht0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Also, tall dudes never gave me hell over my height, other than normal dude shit talking.
Women occasionally shit tested me, but I never gave a fuck.
Being tall is really just a proxy women use to check for ass kicking ability anyway. I think because I was preturned good at fighting, I never was particularly insecure about being a manlet.
[–]tugsmugs 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
But manlet height starts below 5'7-5'6.How many girls(approx.) have you managed to sleep with and have you ever been turned down because of your height.Just curious cause i'm also 5'9 but 17 years old.

Manlet starts at 6'4 . . .or 5'4". It all depends on your humor level.
I've slept with dozens and dozens of women. When I was your age, I'd only had sex one time, so don't sweat it if you're struggling.
That said, I have a piece of advice: don't go after a long term relationship until you've slept with 20 women.
You learn a lot from 0 to 20. You can theorize about it all day on TRP, but you won't really get it until you've done it in meat space.
[–]tugsmugs 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I fully endorse learning any fighting skill. You can argue all day about which discipline is best but learning how to take a punch, throw a punch, and body positioning will give you confidence people can smell on you without ever getting into a fight. "The ability to fight also teaches humility and respect."
This aspect is so true and so valuable. Few activities come close to how much bang for your buck you get in these two areas with martial arts, and you get it EVERY, SINGLE, TIME, you walk in the gym.
And if you go a few times a week the destructive side to your ego doesn't have time to grow back to any significant amount. I take breaks from martial arts occasionally, for a few months at a time, and what really startles me when I get to the gym isn't how unfit I'd become, but how cocky. One single sparring session will check that shit real quick.
Most gyms have a sign saying check your ego at the door ( or something to that effect), funny thing is, if you don't the gym will do it for you anyway.

TIL I'm wasting my time on non-helpful shit. Care to explain why karate is not helpful? Sure, the learning curve is steeper meaning that you need to spend much more time practising it to have tangible effects, but I'm pretty sure that having a black belt in karate will give me tons of confidence.
Just the achievement of getting the black belt will likely make me feel like a king, even if I end up getting my face smashed in by someone who spent the same amount of time doing MMA, it's the confidence that counts, don't you agree?
The fact that you're willing to say "yeah, I can manage this, I'm a black belt" is already a great thing to have.
[–]Endorsed Contributorvandaalen3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Depends on where, what and how you train.
Best sign to tell if what you are learning is useless is if you are doing full contact sparring. If you don't you are just bullshitting yourself.
Confidence without substance is very dangerous. There is no "fake it til you make it" in a street fight.

Swing through a bjj gym and try a class if you never have. Preferably one where you can roll. It's fun and has the longest road to black belt if I'm not mistaken. I think cross training in 2 is key for self defense. But if karates your jam and you train hard, good for you.

Confidence does not actually win fights.
Just the achievement of getting the black belt will likely make me feel like a king
Will you feel like a king with a broken arm, or a jacked up face?

If against someone who has trained a fraction of the time in MMA or Jiu-Jitsu, you will lose.
it's the confidence that counts, don't you agree?
is this the type of delusional shit Karate teaches?
A black belt in Karate is cool, and it shows determination to finish something.
However, it does not qualify you to try to enter battle with someone who trains MMA or Jiu-Jitsu.

Just the achievement of getting the black belt will likely make me feel like a king, *even if I end up getting my face smashed in by someone who spent the same amount of time doing MMA, it's the confidence that counts, don't you agree? * The martial arts black belt is the grown up version of the "everyone gets a trophy" of youth soccer. By itself, it means almost nothing. Almost anyone will get black belt if they just keep showing up long enough, even if it takes 10 years. You have consider the individual behind the belt.
There are black belts and then...there are black belts. If you catch my drift.
Even in Jujitsu, a competitive medaling purple belt and maybe even blue belt, will destroy most middle-aged, hobby-ist black belt in the same weight class. Despite technically knowing less jujitsu, they're just younger, faster and stronger and know enough to not get caught doing most noob errors. If the same blue/purple belt has 25lbs+ on top of the youth and athleticism, forget about it. It's gonna be a massacre.

The rehearsing of the moves is what makes them instinctual. If you're absolutely ready to immediatly throw a technically sound punch or kick when you spot an opening, that's when you get results.
Same reason a boxing teacher will call out combos for you to hit his mitts. At first you have to think how to properly execute it, later on you can do it mindlessly. That's where you want to be with your arsenal of attacks.
[–]trippinallday0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But when someone comes at you unexpectedly and is fighting how normal people fight rather than at a distance with rehearsed moves you're fucked.

I mean, if you have all the confidence in the world but nothing to back it up when some dude is about to assault you, it means nothing.
Better to get something practical.
It's been too often that I've seen guys who were black belts in Karate get messed up by a college aged kid doing MMA for a few months. Just imagine an actual built guy at a bar or whatever.
Not just the mind matters, but also the physical capability.
Fighting=55% mentality, 45% actual skill and physical conditioning
If you only have one you're really gonna miss out.
[–]Unabummer80 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Why are these guys fighting in a bar? They cant be very serious if theyre riking so much on street fighting
[–]JFMX19960 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's not that they'd go out actively looking for trouble, but you know that people are people and alcohol makes them worse and there's always a chance that someone will provoke you and you can't de-escalate a situation, so you'd have to fight. It happens surprisingly often to MMA fighters and boxers I know as well as certain Tae Kwon Do guys. The Tae Kwon Do guys or others very traditional, no restricting styles don't do so well out of tournaments.

I did Karate for over 12 years and got to the Brown Belt level. Like boxing, MMA, BJJ it is a sport. It has rules. The problem is in reality there are no rules : you must win. How you win does not matter. Now I practice Krav Maga and I think it offers the best combat system (not sport) you can think of. It is also used by the military and it is battle proven. I would not go back to Karate.

Just strap on a gat like the guy in the other post.
[–]Fraita1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I've been looking at krav maga for a while (never moved my ass to the classes though), what do you think about that?
It's just another self defense scam.
There are only ~four legitimate martial arts that are widely taught in the US today: BJJ, kickboxing (Muay Thai or western), wrestling, and boxing.
What makes these arts legitimate is that they are all active, competitive sports and most gyms teach them within a culture of active, realistic sparring against resisting opponents. And importantly, each sport has a ruleset that allows for a reasonably realistic simulation of actual combat.
It's possible to find legit Judo schools but for the most part it's very badly watered down. And if you find a good school, you're left with the Judo ruleset which is severely restricted.
[–]basebool0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
And honestly unless you want to pursue competition, muai thai is my favorite to do and learn. They teach you to use every tool available (fist, elbow, knees, kicks, grappling) and will keep you balanced. You add in bjj and you will be solid in every aspect

Currently doing boxing rn. Planning to transition to Krav Maga because there are no rules in street fights. Not planning on picking fights but if it's for personal protection, the situation couldn't be deescalated, and force is a means of last resort, i want to be as effective and lethal as possible

You could just get a gun, it's a more permanent solution.

only assholes get into fights
[–]JFMX19960 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Only assholes start them.
You gotta know how to defend yourself.
De-escalating a situation isn't always possible.
[–]MuhTriggersGuise-1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
OP is literally telling people to take people down and pound them into the ground if they spill a drink on them. That's not exactly defending yourself without de-escalating a situation.
[–]Ali0_o 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That's not what I'm saying at all.
[–]MuhTriggersGuise0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're right, I read a post that I thought was by you but it wasn't.

If you have to fight....win.

What's wrong with Karate OP? I'll do whatever the fuck I want.

Beer bottles make good weapons. I'll have one or two with me during the course of the night. People can act stupid if they want to...

Fact: You automatically become the most alpha guy among your friend group once they realize you go get punched in the face at night while they sit around smoking weed or playing video games.

Do you know how easy it is to die in a fistfight? There's a sub with plenty of footage for you to learn exactly how little it takes for you to get killed in a fight.
Get a CCW, and learn to de-escalate or have enough awareness to leave a situation before it starts.
[–]Unabummer80 -1 points0 points1 point 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
This is a waste of a thread. I dunno why you had a pop at karate. The conditioning alone would make most serious karate practitioners more than capable of defending themselves against the average chump.
I dont know why Im bothering but karate was popular in my hometown for some reason, and the black belts there were clearly much harder than anyone else around back then.
