Along the same lines i'd like to see more adult and clinical terms used to describe Red Pill phenomena. While they may be fun to use at times, terms like "hamster" and "cock carousel" make us sound juvenile, sophomoric and hurt our credibility.

I think this is a shitty policy because you are removing the opportunity for a poster to misplay and sound like an idiot. I think it also adds unneeded work for the mods which should be focusing on real issues.

Some of this will need to happen over time given how engrained many of the terms are. For starters: update the glossary with preferred terms/vocab so as new subscribers join and post it becomes a self-reinforcing feedback loop. Key is to keep the meaning and intent while losing the adolescent tone. We can and should still have some fun and I like the frequent use of acronyms since it requires some investment in learning the ideas to read posts, but I agree we do ourselves a disservice when we come off sophomoric. Men speak clearly.

I think people are misunderstanding this mod announcement. I don't think it means that you can't say things like "sexy times". If a guy is writing a field report and he feels like using the word sexy times, that's fine.

The problem occurs when in situations like the following:

OP: My ex was a slut.

Poster: You're a slut shamer!

"sexy times" is something that is understood by everyone to mean fun sexual escapades. There is however no unanimous agreement between everyone as to what a slut-shamer is. What happened in the discourse between the OP and the Poster is that the OP said a premise, and the Poster responded by using "name-calling" which is the lowest type of argument in the argument pyramid: http://scientopia.org/img-archive/ethicsandscience/img_914.jpg

Furthermore, what ends up happening is that people start discussing the meaning of the word. See these threads to understand how deep it can go:

While you are at it, how about adding atrocious grammar mistakes to the list. Like forgetting to add in an part of a sentence but improper use of conjunctions or tenses.

Often a simple proof-reading aloud fixes many of the gross grammatical errors, and yes I have left the ones above in as an example. If you set a minimum bar, then you encourage everyone to at least achieve that minimum, don't lower it so every special snowflake can be a winner. Let the special snowflakes who want it and put in the effort be the winners.
