This has always bothered me.

I went to Architecture undergrad, a unique study where you see the work of students on a weekly basis via "pinups". There was almost certainly more creativity, boldness, and innovation by my male peers. Girls probably got just as good grades as the boys because they would organize their proposals well, present them well, and had the agreeable face of a 20 yes old girl. But ultimately their projects were frequently boring and/or unimaginative. Now I sometimes bite my tongue when I hear my friends say "architecture is still misogynistic because there aren't many famous female architects" --which is just such BS. The field publishes and promotes bold, creative thinking. There is little sexism in that.

Man, I hate the system. I scored exceptionally high on IQ tests and standardized tests, etc., and they did not give one fuck.

Spent my entire public school career drawing, daydreaming, sleeping, and cutting classes while getting straight A's without studying once - not because I'm some super genius, I'm not trying to brag, but because the school system I was in sucked so bad and was geared towards the lowest common denominator. Had a total of one teacher that ever challenged me enough to pay attention. I always imagine that I could have become something important had I not been so turned off by 1940's era schooling :o/

I'm going to change the tone of the conversation a bit. A huge reason I believe that women have problems with creativity and technical thinking is because they are never forced to do it. They are never forced to develop these skills because men are constantly trying to help them with their work in a feable attempt to get laid.

When I was an engineering undergrad, guys in my class would trip over each other every time one of the few girls needed help. The guys are well intentioned (well kinda, they wanted to get laid), but the reality remains that if you help someone with their work, they are never forced to learn it on their own.

I'm not blaming men or women for this problem. If men quit helping women with their homework 24/7, then women would quit asking. If women were required to do the work themselves, then they would develop the necessary skills to advance into the higher tier positions instead of expecting the positions to be given to them (just like everything else was).

What I'm really trying to say is that we need to stop being White Knights and focus on our own coursework. Stop bending over backwards to help women. If these things happen, men will get better grades because they have time to do their own work, and women will be better off in their careers once they develop their critical thinking skills.

I won't comment on the preferential treatment, because I didn't really observe it in engineering courses (engineering is pretty cut and dry), but your experiences may be different.

apparently you didn't read the article. It says the study showed that boys are typically better than girls in spatial ability, but not when they are adults.
