My plate just "dumped" me. So, I am going to go on a bit of a rant about it. There may be a lesson or two here.

Her rationale for dumping me is that our arrangement was her "best non-relationship", but she was looking for more, "a boyfriend girlfriend thing". In theory I could have said yes. Except for one very occasional side fling (a cougar with a better body than many 20 year olds), she is my only plate. I became complacent exactly because this girl put on the table zero drama, lots of sex and low maintenance cost. So, in theory, I would have lost a very occasional fling and nothing else from saying yes.

The problem is that this girl brings to my table sex and no drama, but I don't feel like she would be a good fit in other areas. So, I stuck to my rule, I don't commit unless I really want to. Men are the gatekeepers of commitment.

I tried to play the card of how she is really cool to hang out with and I'd love to keep seeing her (but definitely not in a supplicating way, more like "you're really cool, I clearly love spending time with you, which is why I asked you to hang out this weekend, and why we've been hanging out for months; but it's your choice to keep seeing me or not"); and how I don't want to enter a relationship because of how I was in two long relationship back-to-back (true) and how my last girlfriend broke my heart (true) and now I need time to recover from both things with a cool casual arrangement with a cool person like her. Neither strategy worked, she was even willing to wait for me to be ready for a relationship (which is crazy, and she would have been riding other cock within a week or two anyway)

Long story short, she said goodbye and she won't be my plate anymore. She had clearly dropped hints that she was looking for an upgrade, and I thought I had deflected - so it's my totally my fault for becoming complacent and not having other plates. I am also sad for her. Breakups (even such casual ones) make me sad. I hate being the one in the "doing the hurting" seat, I wish I could make everyone in the world happy, but I didn't see an actual relationship with her going anywhere, so the best thing I could do is let her down easy.

I can only imagine that with Valentine's day approaching, she must have been around people with boyfriends, her sister even has a fiancé, and she must have felt the pressure to lock me down, and I can see that. Is Valentine' effect a thing? Has it ever happened to anyone else? And, of course, oxytocin always does its thing. Hint: if you're giving your lady friend good sex, she will go on and on and on about how good the sex is. This one told me the tally of her orgasms.

Well, the rant is over. If you think you can learn anything from it, great. If you think you can teach me anything, great too.
