tons of movies are like that, at least anything past 1985. Some of my favorite movies turned out to be massive piles of shit filled with garbage like forrest gump was but just like you it took me a while to really see them for what they are. Some are the exact opposite and I love them now after re-watching them now that I'm a lot older. I think one of the worse ones that tries to give a good message (not that good of a message in the end) but ultimately fails is 500 days of summer. It's one movie a lot of dumbfucks on reddit like to rave about since they pretend it tries to deconstruct the whole "manic pixie dream girl" trope that's riddled media for decades now but honestly I think it does a pretty shitty job at that if that's all it tried to do. Yes the acting was good and the plot could have been well put together but they had to shit it all away in the end. It was a decent movie and that's why I hate it soo much since it had a lot of potential at first but the director caved in and had to end it the way he did to pander to the lowers common denominator in the theaters so they wouldn't think it was a bad movie. What's worse is that people truly think that's how young men should live their lives, chasing one girl after the next until one sticks naturally. It's pretty cringe and honestly a pretty pathetic message to give out to young people. I wouldn't despise it so much if people would shut the fuck up about it but since like me all my friends are movie buffs its a movie that constantly comes up when talking about romcoms.

I don't think it is. I watched it and didn't like it, so I watched it again, and still didn't like it. movie night with friends came around a year after that and watched it again and hated it, so I watched again and still hated it. The thing it ties to do, it does very poorly at. I get the tropes its trying to make the viewer deal with and think about, the underlining message it tried to put forward and say to the viewer from beginning to end but honestly that entire message came a bit too late and seemed rather tired even for a movie in 2009. I get why people love it, it came out in a time that we were getting blasted with typical vomit inducing garbage romcoms, but then again, the late 2000s were not the best time for cinema. That being said, movies that are shit from their inception I'm ok with since I've watched a lot of them and don't take them too seriously since I can tell the directors probably didn't while making them. 500 days of summer however I can't since I can tell the director had it together, wanted to make a good movie, had a solid script, good budget and really good actors and almost made it to the end, then for whatever reason he decided to pull down his pants and take a shit instead.
It's been talked about alot since it's rare we get romcoms that try and deconstruct the typical hollywood formulas but I don't think this movie does it the way it needs to be done, I can tell it tries; they sure did that; but ultimately I think they fell flat on their face with it. I think the director knew if he made that type of movie, he still needed an ending to sell it to critics and everyone else who paid to go watch it so I think that explains the ending. I know Webb isn't the best director (Holy Yikes that Spider-man movie he made) but he could have executed that a lot differently and still made a really solid critique of the male ego and how hollywood tropes have fueled it for so long. but again I don't think he does that with this movie, and the underlining message is still pretty destructive too. sorry for the review but still a 6/10 movie.

I don't think so, not that early that is, around the 1970s? maybe late 1960s? for sure. But classic films made prior to the end of the 1950s, nah I can't see it. Movies reflect life in a lot more ways then we think they do, however you might have a different perspective on feminism then I do so i can't say for sure. Some of the most wholesome and genuinely good films I've ever watched were made in the 40s and 50s around the end of the second world war. It wasn't until the 60s and the whole hippie craze that this country lost it's fucking mind and cinema went along with it. I hate to say it but I think my grandpa was right; the Vietnam war broke this country; and we might never be able to put it back together :(

Actually in the books everything was totally different. It was Forrest who was fucked up and Jenny was a normal girl. And they had a pretty normal sexual relationship before she left him while pregnant because of HIS addiction to marijuana and other issue, and settles with another man. Did you ever see the movie? I hated it and fell asleep during it, but 17-year-old-me still thought the way she treated him was fucked up.
Jenny friendzoned Forrest and strung him along, and even threw it in his face a few times that she was promiscuous as hell. He kept trying anyway, because he was retarded and smitten.
She came back into his life when he was rich as hell, and she pawned her kid off on him before she died of a mysterious illness (strongly implied to be AIDS). It seemed the kid was his son, but it was never clearly established that he was, and Jenny was promiscuous enough to leave lots of room for doubt.
This is all from memory from watching it while babysitting 24 years ago and falling asleep through the boring parts (most of the movie), so bear with me if I botched a few details.

I recall watching that movie, then pointing out to my friends who had just watched it with me that Jenny was a self absorbed skank who made terrible choices.
I've seen numerous 'analyses' where people have tried to excuse Jenny's behavior with "she was abused" or "she was just trying to protect Forrest" and the best (read worst) one was "she was just trying to protect Forrest from herself".
The clear reality was that Jenny didn't want to be stuck with an autistic when there were tingles to be chased and bad boys to fuck.

This is not a lie at all. It's not passed as easily from women to men as it is from men to women or men to men, but as Magic Johnson's case shows, men can catch it from women.
Surprisingly, there's no recorded encounter of heterosexual men, non drug users and never been raped by dudes who have been diagnosed with AIDS.

But to be clear, I'm not saying what she did was reasonable or fair, just that it has an explanation more than "she's a cunt."
I think it's important to know those reasons in real life situations;
Have caution dating a girl from a single mother - she is more likely to have unhealthy attitude towards men or people who have had sexual assaults in the past are more likely to have intimacy issues in LTR.
Lots of us have sisters, or daughters, or family that will date women. Knowing the cause of things and having empathy can mitigate some of the damages caused.
But this is just a chuckle meme, and maybe my old high school English teacher is making me read to much into things.
