Some older women may be missing out on the chance of finding love, she thinks, because, bruised and rejected in earlier relationships, they lack the confidence and persistence to keep dating until they find a match. Lots of people are self-punishing,’ she told me.

However, there can be a more subtle reason why many women who say they’d love to find a man remain single. ‘Some just don’t want to make the compromises that having a man can mean,’ says Dr Maye Taylor, a counsellor and life coach. ‘Many studies suggest men who become single after years of marriage are quick to find a new mate, while women are more cautious. For some, it amounts to a positive decision to remain single.

Oh, so these women are choosing to stay single, be miserable and bemoan their helplessness. This must be because of the evil patriarchy.

Male shaming language is used throughout all stages of life for women in these sorts of articles. It's a bit infuriating that the rhetoric shifts from "men being incel losers" when it's a population of women who have decent SMV (in their 20s, and going for AF), to "there aren't enough good (i.e. wealthy) men," for women in their 30s (and going for BB), to: "those immature, perverse men are practically dating children" when women are in their 40s, and have no SMV left. Even then, they can't simply admit to a fundamental lack of desirability on their part being the main issue. Female nature defaults to a judgemental posture when discussing the dynamic between the sexes, but it's on men to know their worth, not listen to the criticism coming from these women (since it reflects more female psychology than truth), and not apologize for pursuing what interests and attracts them. And there's always MGTOW if the perceived options are that substandard.

Several points of interest in just this one paragraph.

One, she appears oblivious to the reality of what men want. She quite clearly had many men interested in her, so the thought of not being able to find a man when she had a child and is getting older was quite the shock.

Two, the men clearly "lost interest" when they discovered the major liability of her having a child already in the picture. There are very few reasons that a man would see a woman having a child already in a positive light (e.g. she is a widow), and many, many more reasons for him to be wary. She is definitely not in the first category, and men rightly see a bad prospect for several reasons, including but not limited to her having bad judgment, her not having as much time for him as a childless woman, the issue of whether or not he would ultimately have to be a father figure to a child he had no part in creating and does not know whether or not he will have the respect and authority that a father should be granted.

Three, she is getting a taste of what many men experience in dating, where women will be lukewarm with the idea of meeting. Though the context is different (her having a child versus women being flaky in general), the end results of struggling in the dating world remain.

She had ample opportunity to do things right, but she squandered it on some guy who did not stay around to raise the child they created. Frankly, this should be the result every time for women like this, as they did not demonstrate proper decision making and integrity to have a lasting relationship. You only have one life, so don't screw it up figuratively and literally.

It's simple math given that it's about a 50/50 male-female population split . If older men are dating all the younger women, then by rule there's a large pool of younger men available for these older women. Yet not a single mention of this as an option in the article. Who's really invisible here?
