It might be interesting to have a bot auto award a badge flair to users who post top-level comments in the weekly OYS? Something like "OYS 1 weeks"...

Agreed. And what I get out of posting here...or what I did get ,was the tingles it gave me when I watched a guy go from complete shit, to THE shit. Feels good. I no longer need this place like I did 3 years ago, but I'm glad it was here when I needed it. Everyday is a new day a some noob "gets it" for the first time. I like being Morpheus, if you will. My whole point is, it's nice when someone of a respected position (the mods) in a community you frequent (MRP/TRP) recognizes your change.

Why do corporation have awards? At the end of the day there is a psychological desire to be accepted and recognized as a useful part of ones community. WMP can brag all day that he doesn't give a shit, but if there weren't some form of validation that he's doing something right (whether that's here or IRL) than he'd still be crying in his bitch pillow. He just figured out what works and stuck with it....and being a "nice guy" doesn't work.
