I think in a hundred years we'll look at social media the way we look at cigarettes. The companies who make them want it to be addictive, it's bad for young children, and while many moderate users have minimal issues many others will experience negative affects.

Maybe in the 1960's you'd be looked at as weird for not smoking. But if it's not for you then it's not for you. You do you.

If I met a potential date that didn’t have Instagram I’d be over the moon, what a refreshing change. I don’t have a very active social life as my best friends all have gotten married and moved. My Instagram is full of just local photography stuff - stuff from nature hikes I do, nice architecture etc. Boring I know but maybe an idea for yourself if you want an account

Not having an Instagram account can be a disadvantage but also having a bad profile does too. I actually usually get good reactions from girls when I say I don’t use social media. You have to say your reason for not having it though. I usually just say I’m not a fan of it, it’s a waste of time, detaches you from reality and it’s like an addiction, but it’s good to keep in contact with friends and family. Usually people agree with but say “yeah I only use it for xyz”

You should definitely make one. Being "special" doesn't do you any favor. Many people don't have much activity everyday. They mostly share their thoughts about life, and sharing funny stuff they saw on internet...

Gather phone numbers of those you were friends with during school times. Make some communication and you will be fine.

I understand the dilemma but I wouldn't create an account just for that. I don't think it's good to spend too much time on things we consider meaningless just to try to please girls.
Just reply confidently that you don't have an account because you don't like Instagram. If she asks why you can say you prefer spending your time doing **insert your hobbies** than posting on social media.

Conventionally attractive and social female here. I have stopped using instagram over the last couple of years (I check it sporadically) because I've picked up other hobbies to take up my time. My friends and I think it's super hot when I meet a guy that doesn't have instagram, or one that is not that active on it. A multifaceted woman will not care if you have instagram or not, whereas a *potentially* superficial woman might. The user that mentioned females use it for background checks is correct, we also use it to see if there are mutuals to ask about you.

That being said, I'll sometimes meet guys who ask for my instagram instead of my phone number as a way to stay connected. I mention I'm never on, but the opportunity to connect can be lost if they don't have the balls to cold message without reacting to a story. I think people find that it's less risky and easier to reach out to someone by reacting to a story than it is to straight up text.

Build a social circle. I'm 33. Most my friends now just stay at home. I over the course of a year moved to an apartment down town in my city. Started going to a regular bar, getting to know the staff and regulars. Meeting them there, then other places then their places and my place.

Now I'm going to their house parties and shit 24 year Olds do. It's great most of the time I'm the oldest on in the group. Also helps me with sleeping with 20 something girls. It great.

That was 12 months of deliberate work right there. Worth it.

I suspect that if your life didn’t consist solely of “sleep, eat, study, and go to the gym for an hour” you would have simply smiled and laughed at her reaction. Instead, your reaction (primarily facial expression and body language) likely confirmed to her that there may be a reason for concern. Your reaction was natural when you’re thinking the things you posted. But it’s also a big red flag for her.

Since you said you’re good looking, it’s also possible she thinks you’re trying to hide that you’re already in a relationship, and you didn’t want her to see your instagram for that reason.

There is nothing inherently wrong with not having instagram. But if your life is boring and you don’t have hobbies and interests you care about, you seriously need to work on that.

It sounds like your real problem is life balance. If money is your limitation take up cheap or free hobbies. If it’s time, reorganize your life to make time for something you are passionate about.

If that’s impossible, your best reaction was probably to level with her. “I’m not really interested in social media, and frankly I wouldn’t have anything good to post anyway. All I do is eat, sleep, study and gym. When I get done with school I’m going to [personal vision/aspiration].”
