As interesting as this is, The focus of everything in this really long post except for like a handful of words at the end, is on nutrition and fitness, which is outside the scope of this subreddit and belongs in something like a nutrition or fitness subreddit.

I am ripped and very fit and i still eat sugar... It can work for some people but i don’t think its necessary But just my opinion
[–]awkwardrunner11 11 points12 points13 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I agree. Everything comes in moderation, as long as you don’t overeat or eat a ton of sugar you’ll be fine. Like you said everyone is different so what works for some may not work for others.
[–]m1rrari 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah, it’s that learning self control thing that’s hard. I know for me it’s a lot easier to abstain than it is to be truly moderate on things. Not zero sugar though, I’m on CICO which cuts out a lot of delicious amazing sugary things.
Those that can do it though, more power to you.
[–]IDougozzz 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I’m the same, seeing such an extreme post completely cutting out one of the most common nutrients is insane, sugar is in so many foods.
[–]bigdickmcgee23 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
But think about how we have evolved. For the past hundred thousand years sugars have been very hard to come by.
I think the insane part is how much sugar we consume nowadays, not cutting it out.
[–]OuchCharlieOw 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
It’s a myth, our ancestors are from Africa and Africa has had some of the oldest and juiciest fruits that didn’t need human intervention to get big and sugary. Can’t think of the article but there’s fruits that haven’t been touched for thousands of years that have high sugar content. It’s only outside of Africa did fruits need intensive selection. Also humans have been snatching honey from bees since forever. Cool stuff. Eat your fruit don’t fear nutrients fear over eating and being sedentary ;)
[–]bigdickmcgee23 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s very interesting! You’ve changed my mind
[–]roaphaen 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Calling sugar a 'nutrient' is a bit of a stretch. I'd call it an additive processed food companies use to sell metabolic trash to sheeple.
[–]reddstudent 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link
How old are you? Were you ever overweight?
[–]NicoG1996_ 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
24.never overweight just a bit chubby
[–]reddstudent 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
So you’ve never overcome metabolic derangement and yet you have the top comment here
[–]NicoG1996_ 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Well good luck cutting out sugar for the rest of your life.... the chance that you fall back to old weight is very high. Going extremes is often not the solution. You need to have a balance which you can stick to.
[–]reddstudent -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I’ve lost 80lbs and been off sugar for a decade bro. You lack knowledge and experience.
[–]NicoG1996_ 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Well if it works for you very good. But i doubt it works for most people. And now are you always in good shape?
[–]reddstudent -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Yes, I’m 38 and 12% body fat. I train with kettlebells primarily. Paleo/keto/Carnivore/Fasting is my food spectrum these days.
[–]NicoG1996_ 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Well then congratulations. I am happy that it works for you. Like you said you have more experience than me regarding keto and that kind of diet. Like i said i don’t think its the solution for most people. But to some it can be very good like to you

Everything is a paradox in life. Whatever works works.

I think the point op is trying to make is that a healthy lifestyle helps your chances, although maybe this isn’t the diet for everyone but it’s worth a shot

Dude you are seriously over complicating things. All you need to do to lose weight is be in a calorie deficit. It’s not as hard as you are making it out to be.
[–]carlosspicywenus 14 points15 points16 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Caloric deficit, Up your protein, Up your fibre
How you get to the calorie deficit is on you but it's literally the laws of thermodynamics

If ur goal isnt just to lose weight but to be healthy, it can get complicated af.

Perhaps lean ppl cite CICO model smugly. But I’ve seen many ppl trying these crazy diets but never once seriously sitting down and tracking how much you eat and how much you burn. It really is as simple as that. And you can bet if you follow the lean person around all day vs the fat person, you’ll notice small habits with direct relation to their weight.

Have you heard of the laws of thermodynamics?
Educate yourself about "a calorie is not a calorie":
Several metabolic ward studies have shown that there is no difference in weight loss when protein intake was held constant.1
Metabolic effects of isoenergetic nutrient exchange over 24 hours in relation to obesity in women.2
Energy-intake restriction and diet-composition effects on energy expenditure in men.
Nutrient balance in humans: effects of diet composition.
Nutrient balance and energy expenditure during ad libitum feeding of high-fat and high-carbohydrate diets in humans.
Substrate oxidation and energy expenditure in athletes and nonathletes consuming isoenergetic high- and low-fat diets.
Regulation of macronutrient balance in healthy young and older men.
The effect of protein intake on 24-h energy expenditure during energy restriction.
Effects of dietary fat and carbohydrate exchange on human energy metabolism.
Energy expenditure in humans: effects of dietary fat and carbohydrate.
Failure to increase lipid oxidation in response to increasing dietary fat content in formerly obese women.2
Energy intake required to maintain body weight is not affected by wide variation in diet composition.
Weight-loss with low or high carbohydrate diet?
Effect of high protein vs high carbohydrate intake on insulin sensitivity, body weight, hemoglobin A1c, and blood pressure in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
For a good review of the situation that includes a synthesis of the first 10 of these studies, I suggest you read this paper:
To continue the parade of literature showing no winner in the carbs v. fat battle royale:
Long Term Effects of Energy-Restricted Diets Differing in Glycemic Load on Metabolic Adaptation and Body Composition
Long-term effects of 2 energy-restricted diets differing in glycemic load on dietary adherence, body composition, and metabolism in CALERIE: a 1-y randomized controlled trial.
Efficacy and safety of low-carbohydrate diets: a systematic review.
Popular Diets: A Scientific Review
Effects of 4 weight-loss diets differing in fat, protein, and carbohydrate on fat mass, lean mass, visceral adipose tissue, and hepatic fat: results from the POUNDS LOST trial.
In type 2 diabetes, randomisation to advice to follow a low-carbohydrate diet transiently improves glycaemic control compared with advice to follow a low-fat diet producing a similar weight loss.
Comparison of weight-loss diets with different compositions of fat, protein, and carbohydrates.
Similar weight loss with low- or high-carbohydrate diets.
Effect of energy restriction, weight loss, and diet composition on plasma lipids and glucose in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Atkins and other low-carbohydrate diets: hoax or an effective tool for weight loss?
Ketogenic low-carbohydrate diets have no metabolic advantage over nonketogenic low-carbohydrate diets.
Lack of suppression of circulating free fatty acids and hypercholesterolemia during weight loss on a high-fat, low-carbohydrate diet.
Low-fat versus low-carbohydrate weight reduction diets: effects on weight loss, insulin resistance, and cardiovascular risk: a randomized control trial.
Comparison of the Atkins, Ornish, Weight Watchers, and Zone diets for weight loss and heart disease risk reduction: a randomized trial.
Long-term effects of a very-low-carbohydrate weight loss diet compared with an isocaloric low-fat diet after 12 mo.
Weight and metabolic outcomes after 2 years on a low-carbohydrate versus low-fat diet: a randomized trial.
The effect of a plant-based low-carbohydrate ("Eco-Atkins") diet on body weight and blood lipid concentrations in hyperlipidemic subjects.
To come at this problem from the other side, here are three studies showing no difference in weight gain when the ratio of carbs:fat is manipulated:
Fat and carbohydrate overfeeding in humans: different effects on energy storage.3
Macronutrient disposal during controlled overfeeding with glucose, fructose, sucrose, or fat in lean and obese women.
Effects of isoenergetic overfeeding of either carbohydrate or fat in young men.
It may also interest you to learn that dietary fat is what is stored as bodily fat, when a caloric excess is consumed. And that for dietary carbohydrates to be stored as fat (which requires conversion through the process called 'de novo lipogenesis' the carbohydrate portion of one's diet alone must approach or exceed one's TDEE.
Lyle's got great read on this subject, but if you prefer a more scientific one I suggest you give this review a gander:
For a great primer on insulin (with tons of citations) and how it really functions, check out this series:
Insulin…an Undeserved Bad Reputation
The series was summarized quite well in this post.
1 If you're really looking for a metabolic advantage through macronutrient manipulation, you'd be far better off putting your money on protein. There's actually some evidence that higher intake levels do convey a small metabolic advantage.
2 These two papers actually found a decreased amount of energy expenditure in the high fat diets.
3 This study found a greater of amount of fat gain in the high fat diet, though weight gain was still similar.
[–]Brohammer53 8 points9 points10 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Dude could put
"Processed sugar is poison"
And convey the same.
[–]stuiterei 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
How would you describe the pro's of not eating sugar except for weightloss?
[–]jminer1 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I was looking for the con's with all that writing just to see weight loss. You can do that with IF and eat what you want.
[–]InsomniacTrain 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Sugar is literally a poison.
It should be taxed like tobacco
[–]carlosspicywenus 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
It sounds like you have a bias and only will afirm that bias so I don't wish to have a discussion with you. I regularly eat fruit and other sugars and am strong, lean and healthy.
[–]BarcaLiverpool -2 points-1 points0 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Natural sugar is fine. I’m referring to processed sugar. That shit is poison
[–]BarcaLiverpool -3 points-2 points-1 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
How about instead of downvoting me like a moron, you actually have a conversation with me.
Also you are not lean based on your picture. You look fit but you’re definitely not lean. You’re bulky. So stop telling yourself you’re lean. Reducing your sugar intake will help you.
How about you go research the negative traits of sugar intake.
[–]carlosspicywenus 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Sugar behaves the same regardless of source its the length of the sacchride that determines how quickly it enters the blood stream. I am bulky, I'm also not carrying much body fat. This was taken not to long after a surgery.
[–]carlosspicywenus 3 points4 points5 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I'm also not the one down voting you.
[–]AelfredRex 5 points6 points7 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Never heard of "hypoglycemic coma", has ya?
Probably has, but understands the diet suggested wouldn’t cause that.
[–]Rionic 2 points3 points4 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You don’t need to cut out sugar to be in shape. If anything, adding such an intense restriction would just make one more prone to binge eating.
[–]donutfrosting23 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't think this is the right subreddit for this post but anyway, any food in moderation shouldn't harm your body. I have managed to cut out most sugar in my life over the past 6 months and lost going on 20kgs. It doesn't mean I won't eat sweet things on special occasions though, just won't overindulge or make a habit of it.
[–]ArmitageShanks69 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've never been able to get get rid of my belly fat and bum fat, even when I spent 20 years going to the gym. I've just recently started on a keto diet which means cutting carbs and sugar. I'm probably too old to lose the fat now anyway but I'm trying to implement a lifestyle that will hopefully help make me feel, if not look a bit better.
[–]NewlySingleGuy11 1 point2 points3 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah I did Keto which was zero sugar and i feel amazing m. Changed my life
[–]AlphaMaleBoss 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thanks for the post OP. Clearly others are missing your point here. Sugar is a poison and cutting it out goes far beyond weight loss. It takes stress off of your entire system, including the way your brain and body function.
I've considered going this route and I do generally eat very healthy, but I've still had a tough time cutting out occasional desserts.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
People aren’t missing the point. It just doesn’t make sense here. If I post an article on how to improve your professional life and this your salary, it should get the same response. It belongs in career advice. Not seduction. Even though it will likely very much improve a person chances at seduction and dating.

I think it's overrated. Drink what you wanna drink, eat what you wanna eat, as long as you hit the gym. I never hesitate to drink coke, eat pizza and the chick I hang around with loves my body, especially my biceps. Chicks don't give a shit about abs. But most of them care that you are big. This is field experience, not some theory.
[–]WhatWeCanBe 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
No, girls like abs. Try your experiment having them and compare.
[–]serdarsam 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I didn't say then don't like them. It just doesn't matter much to them. Their priorities are much different than ours. And if you think you had girls thanks to your abs, that means you have no idea how their brain works.
You said ‘Chicks don’t give a shit about abs.’ You have no idea how words work, before we even get to the female brain.

Yea but being diabetic, its hard to find substantiated evidence as well as medical advice on doing just that. My sleep is especially fucked if im not taking in some kind of insulin and then if im not eating sugar my blood sugar gets too low.
[–]FaithInStrangers94 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I guarantee I’m in better shape than you and I eat some sugary shit. Every needs to be done in moderation for it to be sustainable.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You can eat as much sugar as you want as long as you eat enough trenboloni sandwiches
[–]PristineAd9800 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
Going sugar free causes headaches so bad you honestly think your head will explode! I got to say 5 and couldn’t do it. I know there are people who pick on the bike person everywhere but in a world collapsing scenario who’s gonna survive?
[–]gvkcps 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've also read his book. It sounds very compelling at first, because everything he says makes sense, and he shows evidence of it. But after reading more about the subject you can quickly find many counterexamples and evidence for other theories as well. He is not a scientist, which only hurts his credibility when bashing other theories. My main point is that his book's thesis is only a hypothesis at this point, while he presents it as the ultimate truth. Too much sugar is bad, processed specially, but you can still have good health and eat balanced amounts of it.
[–]blothhundrr 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
What are some foods that you least expect to have sugars but still do and should be avoided?
[–]espada_da 0 points1 point2 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
At that point, doesn’t your body essentially get allergic to sugar? I know a guy who’s had no sugar for years and he was literally hospitalized once bc he had sugar.
Pretty sure your brain can't function without it. I haven't been able to do Keto or any of these fad diets without getting very sick the first day.
The issue isn’t so much sugar it’s refined carbs and processed sugars. Eating an apple is high in sugar but it’s a healthy sugar that won’t make your blood sugar crash. Having skittles is different than grapes
