Do shit-tests exist?

They exist, although girls are not aware of them doing these. They just feel like they should tease you, or it fits in the situation. After you failed it they just don't feel attracted to you as much anymore. Instead of calling it a shit test (which indicates they test you) try calling it a wimp move you can make at some points in the interaction. The effect would be the same, but calling it like this indicates the failing action is on your side. Which is in my point of view more accurate as girls do a shit test unconsciously while you make the wimp move knowingly (afterwards).

I think they don't exist per se, as /u/Adalheidis_ mentioned, women aren't aware of this, but they do fall into this behavior because it's funny and it unveils what you feel (what Mark Manson says about vulnerability).

Recently, I started talking with a girl who I met thru a female friend. She said she was attracted to me and that I should probably just talk to her. We added each other on social media and started talking. When I asked her "tell me more about yourself" she replied with this:

single mom of 3, abusive ex husband, catlady and a mental illness called bipolar

How would that make you feel? You're getting to know someone who you think is hot and out of the blue she brings up this kind of stuff. I just replied casually and told her about myself, and even though I didn't actually know she was joking, I didn't want to make a huge deal about it, I just played along, either true or false. After a few minutes she said "I hope you took it as a joke what I wrote", my answer was simply: "Definitely not, I totally feel sorry for your abusive ex husband."

It's basically girls having fun, don't take things too seriously. At least that's my experience, although sometimes, they can be good actresses and put a serious face when saying something like this. It confuses most of us :)

Shit tests definitely exist. Women will say fucked up things to see how you react and if you react well (i.e., alpha and/or dominant), they become more attracted to you.

I don't think Mark Manson says that shit tests don't exist. I think he says that you shouldn't chase women who shit test you. I agree. It's fun to chase those "bad girls" but if a girl is constantly challenging you and constantly saying fucked up shit to see how much of a "man" you are, you're not in a healthy relationship and you're probably not going to be with her long. Imagine if she was Jay-Z - would she lob a shit test at him every 20 minutes? No? Then you shouldn't put up with that shit either. Most girls who "shit test" a lot are either 1) jerks, 2) insecure or 3) don't like you.

I like thinking of shit-tests like qualifiers. They're testing you. They're giving you chaos and negative feedback and judging how you react to it.

I've noticed I do this to women myself. I feel like my sperm is pretty valuable so I don't want to risk having kids with some random shitty chick. I want to make sure she's up to my standards, so I'll throw shit at her and see how she reacts. If she passes, I progress; if she fails, I'll give her more chances, but ultimately I'm fine with just moving on.

They definitely do, and they're not unheard of for guys to do them, too.

Example: I had been seeing this girl, and it was starting to get serious, and I wanted to see how squeamish she was, so one time we were on the couch watching Netflix, and I ripped a big fart and then acted as if nothing happened. No attempt to pardon myself. She just said something like 'Well, OK then'. She didn't overreact and get pissy, so she past the shit test.

Shit tests definitely exist, but I'm not always certain that girls are consciously aware of what they're doing, just like I'm not always consciously aware of precisely why I'm teasing girls.

People absolutely test one another in various ways when out there doing the mating dance, it's unavoidable and frankly it's terrific because it's part of what allows the whole thing to be "hacked".

They exist. You have to learn to differentiate between shit tests and 'I'm not interested.' People here take shit tests so seriously that get the mind set that all women are out to reject them, it's their mission to attack guys, and you always have to be on the defense.

People waste their time chasing women that don't like the person back and guys take it as a 'shit test.' If a girl says "I have a boyfriend" it usually means...she has a boyfriend, or isn't interested. Why bother trying to come up with some stupid whitty line to counter that? It's asinine.

Shit test is just a way to teach guys to be persistent and not back out at the slightest trouble.

I don't bother wasting my time with someone that won't reciprocate back. It's pointless. I'll put in a good effort and still be persistent, but if she isn't interested, I won't bother persuing and go somewhere else.

She will test your honesty, character, strength, commitment, social skills, etc. and you will do the same to her. If she doesn't, then she is needy. Same goes for you. It's a matter of perspective. If you see it as an obstacle, then it is. If you see it as an opportunity to be honest and forward, then it is. I could very well call it the golden test, to see if you're worthy of the gold.
