Always talk to the girl you want. But if you really want success. Look for women in pairs where one is clearly much better looking than the other. And if she has an open body language facing the crowd and is constantly looking around, she's there for one purpose only. If two girls are facing each other and really into the conversation, don't bother.

Approach the group ask each girl what their name is and then proceed to talk to the girl you wanna take out.

Can't say what you can do, but something you should definitely not do is "buy their attention" an example being what happened to me a few months ago, was out by myself enjoying a few quiet beers where this one guy approached me(obviously had more than a few beers) and tried to coerce me into wing manning him for this group of girls (about 6 to 8) anyway I told him id pass and he ended up going solo on them. I ended up joining cause he kept pointing and waving at me in front of them so I got curious. Turns out I actually knew one of the girls so me and her started chatting and catching up. It was only after the 2nd shot he ordered that I realized this guys strategy to get these girls attentions was to just keep buying shots and hoping one might start showing interest (of the half that was actually single in that group, none were interested in him)
