If you're getting prolonged eye contact or quick secretive glances, it indicates some interest. You might want to check out the indicators of interest. I know I was terrible at recognizing these back in high school:

As for conversation: it can be surprisingly easy. Just ask what she's been up to this week or today. Then ask a followup based on that. Eventually some common topic of interest should come up.

Since you're in high school, you've got a lot of common context to talk about. Teachers, local events, hard/easy classes, school news, etc. Talking is more about how you interact and less about what you're actually talking about. Any subject can do as a start.

There's lots of more advanced topics on here, but I'd say simply saying "hi" and exchanging any words at all is an improvement over nothing.

This is one of the biggest problems for guys after AA. The first thing you want to be able to do is ask the right questions, and then following that, you want to be able to investigate what they said. If you can find something they're passionate about - sometimes they're so passionate about something they'll talk about it before they even get their name out. Make sure you relate (this is called rapport) and a joke every now and then never hurt. BUT the real reason most guys can't keep the conversation going is because they don't listen, and they don't treat it like a conversation.

Let them break eye contact and then approach. I assume you know most of these people, so you should be giving at least the select ones "hellos" regardless of whether they look at you or not. You are a social dominant, this is your job.

As for the conversation portion ... what would you like to say to them? Say that. Or, if you're looking for some generic advice: Example (men): Hey Bobby, did you see ... blah blah blah. Example (women): Hey Victoria, i just had to tell you ... blah blah blah.

Start with something simple and work your way up. If you're already fine with getting into conversation (which you may be) but they fizzle work on this: statement + question + statement. Example: Last night i went and saw Avengers. Have you seen it? It was fucking amazing because .... I thought it was the best movie of 2012. What did you think? You're right, xyz was better. You know what was really good, qrs. Did you see that? You need to go see it ...

I could do that shit forever. Statement + question + statement. Don't think about topics or considerations or all the other things preventing you from talking about the things you find interesting. Just get on a thread you enjoy and use statement + question + statement.

First off, I am going to say I am not goodlooking.. actually I am good looking, but I'm not hot. I don't have a six pack, I am not thin, and I am kinda short. So I am definitely not making ladies swoon with my body. I was the same all through high school. The thing to remember is this: if they are interested in you then you can talk about anything you want and they will be interested.

(note: this next part is for mostly not being awkward and creating an engaging conversation, I am not sure if it relates a ton to real pick up, also high-school game is a different thing than normal stuff) If they aren't already interested in you, talk about things you find interesting with enthusiasm, or talk about things they find interesting with enthusiasm. Talk about anything, but be engaging, enthusiastic and confident. Make them know that you do enjoy talking with them, show positive body-language, smiles, laughs, etc.

As for people looking at you, eye contact is important, in fact in humans it is one of the strongest forms of nonverbal communication we have, follow up on it. Walk over and just comment on something, anything or everything; a class, their shoes, their t-shirt, that football/basketball game last week, the crazy teacher. Just make a connection. Now you have a natural conversation opener next time you see them. Branch out into other common topics. The first time talking to someone is the hardest. I remember one of my better friends from high school I only knew because I would see her everyday between a few classes and I would always talk to her for a bit. This is one of the best times to practice your direct approaches because there is a slightly higher sense of safety within a school.

Conversation fizzling out? Sometimes I will jokingly point it out "oh, [laugh] what a generic/lame/boring/stupid/etc. conversation this is." make jokes about it being lame. It helps show the fact that you're not awkward, you realize that this is not how a normal comfortable interaction is, and it shows that you know how to have a normal comfortable interaction because you can identify one that is lame or not normal.

Ok I think there's 2 things here that you can work on to help you keep a conversation going.

The first is creating a belief that you are an interesting person who has engaging things to say. It sounds like girls are giving you signals that they want you to approach them: believe in their attraction to you, and that what you have to say is engaging.

Now to the nuts and bolts of how you make this work for you today: try my share-ask-share strategy. Women love guys who are interested and intriguied by the world around them. If you're at school you already have a common ground to work with. Sharing: So kick start the conversation by sharing your opinion about school/ class/ the game- whatever. Asking: Ask what she thinks about the same topic. Listen to her and then... Sharing: Respond to her opinion.

This may go something like this:

"Hey, I saw you at the game last Friday- I don't believe we lost to the Hawks... those guys did not play fair."

"Yes, did you see their mascot too... he was ridiculous."

"Yeah, I don't always think our school is the coolest but at least we don't have a mascot that used to be a KFC chicken!"
