There are a whole host of reasons, some outlined in the other comments, but if you think about it, a lot of the people who seek out pick up advice, are going to be socially awkward to start with, and the hard truth is most people who try to learn something new, especially something difficult like pick up. fail.
So what most of society sees is socially awkward weirdos trying and failing miserably to pick up women, that's why most women will say things like "pick up doesn't work on me." or "pick up artists are creepy losers who can't get laid."
Same thing in movies, people say they hate CGI, what they really mean is they hate bad CGI, you don't notice good CGI, because it's doing it's job.

not always in the case of cgi. you can look at something think it looks amazing but know it's cgi and still hate it. they hate the decline in the authentic real sets, animatronics and physical effects that are constantly handed over to be done in cgi. audiences are angry at the over reliance on creating everything in a computer and not from craftspeople and artistans

The idea for the mainstream is that we are practicing manipulation tactics targeting others (particularly women, so we're seem as predators).
Our reality is that we are practicing self-help, self-love, self-respect, self-development and we're doing it to better our lives. On this journey, most of us become better people and learn to treat others better because of it. We learn skills that make social interactions smoother and we practice them to become better.
Some of us are bad people, some of us are good people, but the mainstream hates on us all as a group, because of their first perception listed above. And yet they love us as individuals, because when they speak to us they are the unwitting benefactor of all our hard work and experiences with people.
How dare we become better people in a society's eyes, while using tactics all of society uses. How dare we shine lights on behaviors that all those successful in the society do. How dare we shine lights on all those things people who aren't successful do! How dare we decide to leave our current social place and strive for one that's elevated.

I think there are a lot of really overly aggressive "pick up artists" roaming around nowadays... lots of youtubers as well. I'm sure shit gets old for women. Everyones tryin to make a buck on this pick up artist stuff these days, so gotta be careful.

Also there’s “famous” PUAs out there laughing about how they forced a girl to have sex with them and laughing about it. Fucks up people’s perception of the community.

Women might label you as a "creep" or "manipulative" just because they don't like the idea that you can apply techniques to pick up and sleep with women. They like to believe that things "just happen" or that they're picking you, not that you're applying a skill and getting exactly what you want. That puts too much "power" in men's hands as they see it. That's also why women tend to be into zodiac shit. They love believing there's a certain "magic" to relationships and compatibility. It makes them feel like they somehow have the power.

PUAs get hate cause they mostly think of people of getting something from them as opposed to offering value. Many pick up on that and dont kioe being disturbed for it.

What do you get the hate for exactly? I mean you can do and study pickup without your regular friends knowing about it..

Western civilization has decided it's not okay for men to have an edge when it comes to dating.
And it doesn't help that there are in fact many bad-apples in the pickup community who make the rest of us look bad.

Some? Most. Most guys are horrendous.

Some heterosexual women let their anxiety about dating the wrong man get the best of them.
Those women are called cowards.

If you're getting negative energy thrown at you, just do what PUA's are supposed to do: calibrate!
Dial it back in other words.
But I think the idea of "hate" directed towards PUA's is highly exaggerated, if not completely fictitious. In night game, pickup is the norm and it's what practically every guy with any kind of balls is trying to do. Experienced PUAs probably get the LEAST negative attention because they're not running around in an uncalibrated way creeping people out.
Day game is more uncommon, but if you watch day game infields and listen to daygame "how to" videos, the guys who do it all the time say that getting hassled is virtually never a problem.
The daygame guys say, people walking by (1) don't give a crap what people are talking about, and (2) if they see or hear what's going on they tend to approve or be neutral anyways.
Practically the only daygame negativity I've heard is when guys try it in a private shopping mall and it's just not enough of a public place. They get noticed by mall cops eventually and told to leave.
One of the London daygame guys told a story about a mentally deranged wino who started to recognize him and try to cockblock him every time he approached a girl but he says it was easily mastered by having a stronger frame ... "this guy's deranged and we're only having a friendly conversation anyways."
Never heard of a daygamer getting beat up or arrested. So where's the hate? Other than online where people tend to lose their cool anyways.

Exactly! Agreed.

How exactly does one stop being a hard case?
[–]ArmitageShanks69 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
A lot of it does appear weird and creepy.
I remember when I first discovered pua back in early 2006 and these guys were stopping girls in the street saying, "Hi, I saw you and thought you looked attractive so I had to stop and say 'Hi'"
13 years later and half the pua videos I see on YouTube are guys doing and saying exactly the same thing.
Now that pua has gone from underground to mainstream and most people now about it now, how are people seeing these videos on YouTube not going to think that this is weird and creepy behaviour?
My advice is don't call yourself a PUA. Just consider yourself someone who loves to be social. Or someone who is constantly trying to become a better person. Then all of a sudden it's not weird, even though that is what PUA truly is. Self development. Most people just don't understand because they think of the aggressive, manipulative, immoral PUAs.
