One of my main issues is that I put any potential on a pedestal and start crushing hard/wearing rose tinted glasses. The last few guys I've been considering, I've written myself a pro/con list on him, aiming to be heavy on the con. This helps me keep my head and put things in perspective. Case in point, latest guy (I hoped for hvm): we went on a coffee date, all seems positive, he paid, I ended it first. Cue rose tinted glasses, me thinking of cute Christmas date ideas etc. Then I checked myself. He lives with his ex and thier two kids (military benefit but wtaf). He has no car of his own. He didn't initiate the date. He doesn't initiate conversations. Being military, he does stupid stuff with the boys while drinking (stripping in front of his workmates and boss, making a fool of himself at a bar). That aside, he looks so similar to an nz TV personality who I can't stand. Then there's me, I own my house, I have a good job, I have multiple cars, I have hobbies, I'm beautiful, smart and accomplished. Boy bye, onwards to better prospects.
