Yep even as a kid, I hated Johnny Bravo because he just wouldn't let women who were clearly not interested in him be. Rewatching some episodes as a grown up truly showed me how sick and predatory he was and the disgusting ways he objectified and sexually harassed women .
I guess to the male execs it was funny and quirky.

I honestly think it's a genuine difference in sense of humour. Like, in the UK it's very popular for main characters in shows, especially comedies, to be people you're meant to hate and cringe at. You're not SUPPOSED to think the character is a protagonist and root for them. You're meant to laugh at how pathetic they are.
It reminds me of a critic I watch talking about the show Bottom we have in the UK. It was hugely popular and the two main characters were disgusting, sleazy, misogynistic and creepy. You watched to laugh at how they never had any success in life and how cringy their lives were. The critic was remarking on the difference in UK and American culture because there was a video where Americans react to Bottom and they're like "WTF these are the heroes? They're awful! Why would I root for these guys?" Not getting that not every main character of every show has to be someone you can identify with and want the best for.
Edit: another example is David Brent in the UK The Office and Michael Scott in the US The Office. In the UK version, there is only like one moment I can think of where you can find yourself liking David Brent and it's when he finally tell his misogynistic friend to fuck off. In the US version, you regularly find yourself sympathetic to Michael Scott.

lol that weird skunk but isn't he from the 40s and that era was entirely different, especially when it came to their attitude towards women. same era that a war vet kissed a random woman on the street without her consent and everyone till this day thinks it was cute.

Man!! I remember as a kiddo cracking up at how lame he was!! It was totally apparent to me, even as a child, that he was a predatory jerk, but the way women would straight toss his ass over their shoulders and move on totally unbothered except maybe with disgust also amused me cuz it gave me the impression that women could be badasses giving firm rejections. Absolutely, he's a creep, and I'd never thought of the show in the terms spelled out here, but I had the fortune of being raised in a house that didn't play up these dynamics so to me it was always just dumb.

I used to watch this show and I didnt realize what it was about but now that I am grown up and in therapy I realized this show is one of the reasons I hate males. It showed me they are womanizers.
Interesting how tv shows can teach you messages that linger in your mind for a lifetime

I heard a theory that he's actually a child, and the adult man is who he pictures himself to be. Makes a lot more sense that he lives with his mum and has a child friend, AND that all the women don't give him the time of day.

Modern day cartoons are mostly written by straight up pedophiles. There have been numerous scandals where these men have been caught sexually abusing/grooming underage girls. Don’t let your kids watch these networks, they are run by sick freaks who are trying to groom an entire generation through the television.
