So she compromised her own life and wellbeing to have his child, compromised staying home longer to stay with his child because she found she enjoys spending time with the baby, and now she's compromised her employment to work around needing to pay for childcare.

And he doesn't want to compromise a few hours so they can continue not paying for childcare.

So here's what you do. Interview a few nannies, take money out of the joint account so that he's paying for it, and go crush your job all while knowing your baby is being cared for by someone who wants to spend time with them and actually enjoys being around them.

Then, maybe consider why you even need to stick with the sperm donor and consider divorce.

He sounds like a selfish prick. It's not your job to do 100% of the childcare, the baby is half his kid too. You're already doing the bulk of it, anyway. I think his ego is threatened by you achieving even a minute form of independence from his view of what domestic bliss should be and he's lashing out. This is a major red flag.

I wonder how many women are having unwanted children. The proportion of unplanned pregnancies is 1 in 4 in the US (half of which are aborted, so 1 in 3 of pregnancies carried to term) and 1 in 6 in the UK (not sure how many are aborted and how many are carried to term - apparently 1 in 4 are aborted, which doesn't seem to make intuitive sense? 1 in 3 births is "unplanned or associated with ambivalence", which is broadly the same as the US stats). I guess that will include some very happy surprises, but I think mainly they are unwanted - and there will be pregnancies women have planned due to coercion etc. that they didn't actually truly want. When there's even a modicum of women's rights, the birth rate plummets to well below replacement - even as it includes women who we know are still having unwanted children. And how many women, unsure, have 1 child, and then realise it was a mistake? I would imagine far more than women who hit menopause childless and truly regret it. I think it's a huge problem.
