Therefore, in the US in 2018 men within the given categories (outside of the home etc.):

  • are killed 5,973 times a year, more than 16 times every single day - around 6.5 times as often as women
  • killed outside of self-defense in 98 out of 100 killings with known circumstances
  • killed outside of fights with 3 or more people in around 97 out of 100 killings with known circumstances
  • won't even reach the stage of a 1 on 1 fight in about 85 out of 100 cases with known circumstances
  • killed over arguments more than 8 times as often
  • are killed in homelessness around 7 times as often
  • killed whilst being a bystander around 2 times as often
  • killed whilst helping victims more than 14 times as often
  • killed due to jealousy almost 3 times as often
  • killed in random violence 3 times as often
  • killed by strangers around 7 times as often

Seeing these numbers, it is questionable if women being allowed rational risk tolerance because they are valued (i.e. being afraid to walk home), being taught protective behaviors (i.e. taking precautionary measures), women receiving extensive specific self-defense training whilst provided more protection by people walking them home, phone services, bystanders and law enforcement are actually an argument for the existence of misogyny - as it is presented - or misandry. If women are afraid that men will kill them, they might want to think about whether being a man would help with that.

And to the men around here: if you believe to be safe on the street, you are deadly misinformed. Keep in mind that the above is just the violence that will kill you. This is the smallest fraction of what could be done to you. In the US, men are killed by stangers every day. When women are killed over jealousy, that's often called a femicide (like basically any murder of a woman) because jealousy is not a valid excuse and therefore the gender was the reason...

"Mexico ignores femicides - From January to October 2019, over 3,000 women were murdered in Mexico, however, only 809 cases were registered as femicides" [...] Olivares Ferreto also mentioned that a researched by the last name of Torreblanca found out that at least a third part of the cases declared as “violent death” and “intentional homicide” against women are probable femicides. “She analyzed the number of murders of women given by INEGI from death certificates. A medical examiner drafts a certificate when a person dies. That doctor says ‘it seems as though this person was murdered’ and that is the information we call ‘feminine deaths with presumption of femicide’ (…) “What Torreblanca does it to analyze in how many of those certificates the alleged perpetrator was the victim’s couple; in how many we find that the doctor registered there were antecedents of domestic violence; in how much sexual violence was registered; in how many the victim’s body was found inside her home and with that information she has found out that approximately 34% of all the murdered women could be classified as femicides” she explained in an interview." [...] Oftentimes, to avoid the investigation of women’s murders as femicide, authorities classify them as “crimes of passion” and justify the crime in an inadequate, stigmatizing, and discriminatory way. “’Crime of passion’ is not a crime; it’s a way to call a crime that is murder. What we have pointed out is that this kind of crimes are called femicide. Women are not killed out of passion; women are killed out of hate." - "No one kills a person because they feel ‘passionate’ or at least that passion is not positive. And it has a name in the criminal code, in the 33 criminal codes of the country it is called femicide; it’s not a crime of passion; it’s a hate crime,” asserted the activist, who highlighted that when authorities and society use this name they legitimize violence against women by blaming men’s hates and jealousy as a reason to kill women."

If that is how it works, all of the 5,973 cases apart from the 106 in self-defense are de facto androcides and saw the men die simply over them being men - all of them are hate crimes. None of them had a valid reason, in fact there are more men killed in random violence than in self-defense. The rates show a blatantly gendered issue. And in fact, seeing the differences in empathy, protection, expected risk tolerance and expected lack of vulnerability... there is actually compelling evidence for that claim. It is psychologically easier to make men suffer, they will be pushed into riskier behavior, will trigger less intervention, less reporting by both first and third parties and even if one might get caught it might lead to less consequences. In fact, it would be surprising if men were not more often victims of violence simply for their gender. Men are killed for lacking the protections that come with two x chromosomes. Every day.

So the next time you believe that you protect yourself at home because you are a woman and therefore have to fear for your life, maybe ask yourself if being a man would help with that. Maybe it would - because every year for additional thousands of you that fear would become a reality and thus stop the worrying.
