If not for the lack of internet(and thus, electricity), I would 100% be living in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. I just cant get over that one hump. I don’t need people, I could if necessary transition to proper food planning and not need multiple trips to the store weekly, I’d be very happy if I was living in a place where I didn’t have the capacity to bother my neighbors(or have them bother me). I can get behind everything about the hermit lifestyle except the electricity part.

Yeap! That's pretty much my plan. Location etc all picked out and hope to complete the land purchase later this year. Then just work away and save up enough cash to build up a good solar system, water well etc and ideally be almost 100% self sustainable.

Been research it for years and doing courses and meeting like minded individuals to increase my knowledge base, but I think when all is said and done you just need to get on with it and find out what you don't know and pick up/learn from others. Internet addiction is still my issue though, so will need to break it or be semi-ongrid

You could live in the wild and still have electricity if you put in solar panels etc... look at all the tiny homes that run on solar power.

Do you know what I like about Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater? The idea of a man living in the wild and hunting and eating wildlife to survive. Especially that one scene when after Snake escapes and meets EVA behind the waterfall. Seeing him eat those snakes with such vigor.

Makes you want to brave the wild yourself.

I get the feeling that i want to get the hell out of america... but then i learned that other countries are as bad if not worse by a large margin compared to america... now i'm just GMOW and hoping that they never come up with a "you must marry" law or something similar in crazy scale.

I have a cabin and some fertile land a good distance from city where i live. Theres nothing like the feeling of freedom i get from breating the fresh air and listening to birds. The land gives as much as you put work into it. Just as a tip youll want to do live like this when you are already financially set or have a remote job. Having to work the land to get food to eat is really tough work if its not on a hobby level.

Yep. But let me tell you, life in the country ain't all it's cracked up to be.

Even after the experience, I miss some of the solitude but being alone for a period of years (except the occasional store clerk and/or emails) it really makes you nutty. You can easily feel somehow less than human, as if you were a skunk or something just trying to stay alive.

It can be very depressing, but sometimes I miss it.

Myself, I want to live in an RV and just travel around.

I've done something similar in the past. I built a very crude teepee out of logs and hay and lived in that for about a year. I plan on finding a mountain when the temp picks up a little more and go back to the life.

Not quite as fancy as a log cabin but it works for me. Costs nothing to build and maintain, just time.

Gotta break it down into digestable goals.

"Press X to make a fire" -> Learn firemaking methods. Go as hardcore as you want (rubbing sticks together, make a firebow, etc). Boom, that "command" in the vidya you love is in your arsenal now.

I've had similar fantasies myself. Unfortunately, i have a medical condition that more or less shackles me to society and the healthcare systems, so i dont think i could ever achieve that kind of lifestyle :(

I absolutely know what you mean. Infact, I do plan to go off the grid completely at some point in my life, as soon as I acquire enough money and enough skills to ensure my survival. Start learning bushcraft. It'll help you out in every day life as well. Infact, I recommend that every man, even if you have no plans of ever camping or going in the woods, practice some bushcraft and basic survival skills. Should you ever get in a bad situation like, your car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, you survive a plane crash in an isolated area, etc. you will have the skills to survive and make it out of that situation.

I think I first started really liking the idea of off-grid living when I began to read the works of Thoreau. Additionally, I've always hated the idea of living in suburbia. I also hate having neighbors. They make far too much noise and they're all so god damned nosy. Can't even mow your lawn without somebody observing you. Plus, I'm a gun enthusiast so I'd like to have enough land to build my own shooting range.

There is a huge population of rv nomads in the us. Camp on blm land, work at amazon, the beet harvest or be a campsite host. Travel around, see the country, be free. Might want to look into it.
