Have you ever taken care of any one with dementia? I don’t think so.

My family took care of my grandma who had dementia that worsened after her 3rd Covid. We had the help of a full time nurse. Grandma wasn’t walky talkie but having a professional help was definitely a blessing.

Have you ever been a caregiver for someone with severe dementia? I have and it's the most exhausting, depressing, soul crushing experience of my life.
They're lucky enough to be rich and can afford 24/7 professional care.
I would have done the exact same thing if I could have afforded it.
At least it sounds like Bruce hasn't become aggressive, paranoid, and violent.

This is a disgusting post from someone who has never dealt with this condition. That is the safest and best place for him. The physical and mental drain of dealing with that condition is immense. I'm sure he's receiving the best care possible, but he's dying.

Dude, he's got dementia. Putting him in a 24/7 care facility is the best thing for him. That's a place that can care for all his needs and keep him safe 'round the clock.

You have no clue how hard it is to care for someone with severe dementia. Literally nobody can take on that care alone. It is like having a toddler running around not having a clue, only it is much worse than that.

In fairness dementia is a really difficult illness to caretake for, it's obviously in poor taste for her to be drumming up book sales, but it's what all the celebrity attention seekers do

What a horrible post. You have no idea what they decided on beforehand and you have no idea how hard it is to care for a dementia patient. Using someone’s illness to push your agenda is vile.

OP, i hope you never have to go visit a loved one with this condition only to have them not recognise you, even being fearful of this stranger in front of them.

you end up visiting someone who is just an empty vessel of the person you once knew. that connection you had is gone but the body still remains.

you visit, but leave wondering why you bother visiting someone who doesnt recognise anyone, but you still go again anyway.

its soul crushing for everyone involved.

I had to take care of my father for 2 weeks when he was suddenly diagnosed with an aggressively terminal brain cancer nearly 2 years ago. He speed ran dementia as the cancer spread and a quick death was a mercy. I can't imagine how hard long term care for dementia patients must be, but after only a couple of weeks I know I wouldn't be able able to hack it physically or emotionally. A qualified team providing round the clock care sounds like she's doing the right thing.

Yep. Women are all about “what have you done for me lately?” It’s transactional. Buy her a house, she’s happy for a few months then she expects you to treat her to an exotic vacation. You lost your job? You’re now entering a grace period before she starts cheating or leaves you. They’re the worst.

I work in a rehabilitation hospital. When a family member gets to that point, their home is not a safe place to be for them. He needs fully involved care at all times. Doesn’t matter if it’s a beloved spouse or a parent, there’s a lot of guilt surrounding those types of decisions. Seeing how much those patients need, I would never want my family to put themselves through that. They can love me best by making sure I get the care I need and they in turn take good care of themselves. I don’t want them to be sad for months to years on end as they watch my memories of all of us dissolve before their eyes.
