I think this is spot on. If you ban "trolls," then you are banning dissent and free speech, and turning this forum into a mindless cheering ground. I'd like to think that we are better than that. The difference between "dissent" and "trolling" is entirely subjective.

Trolls should be handled with downvotes, not bans.

Why the fuck was emmster banned? She's a feminist, but she's about as close to any rational discussion we're doing to get with a feminist.

EDIT: According to kanuk, emmster isn't banned. Only Aerik is banned for trolling and there isn't a man alive that would disagree with that decision.

Not saying one way or another on this, banning in forums seems to be pretty widespread on the Internet when their owners don't like what you have to say.

If you haven't read the Reddiquette yet, I strongly advise you to do so. If everyone read this, the world (at least this small corner of it) would be a better place.

Of course, with all the healthcare hullabaloo going on at the moment, reddiquette has been largely abandoned in favor of mudslinging and sensationalism. Still, it should be read and adopted by everyone in this community.
