Feminism: we want equal pay!

Society: ok so work the same amount of hours and high jobs and retire and the same age

Feminism: wHaT ?! tHiS is sExIsT

[–]jaesharp 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

(ignoring the fact that men, on average, die at a much earlier age than women - so have fewer years of retirement, on average, if they retire at the same age women do; so, if anything men should be paid more if they're expected to live shorter lives after retirement, in order to have truly equal pay, on the average per year retired over the entire lifetime, no?)

[–]carlosi1 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

get the fuck out of here with your logic.

[–]jaesharp 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

jetpacks the fuck out of here

[–]AgincourtSalute 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Perhaps the men are dying at a younger age because they had to work until they were 65. Equality of retirement age may mean that we see an equalising in life expectancy, or it may be that the type of work is what is killing the men younger and we won't. It will be interesting to see the figures in years to come regardless.

[–]jaesharp 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah, something tells me they won't get better - and people will continue to say "oh, it's obviously inherent biological differences" without actually bothering to examine things rigorously.

Women deserve free money because they have a vagina... Wtf?

[–]dukunt 31 points32 points33 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I know right? Boo fucking Hoo..so now they are inline to retire the at the same age as men. My heart bleeds for them.

[–]Martin_Odegaard 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The funniest part? Women live longer than men, so it would be doubly unfair if they had won.

[–]ThatDamnedRedneck 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

And they often take a lot more time off work for child rearing, so even less time actually working.

[–]ArcheryDude101 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

To be fair, there were problems regarding gender inequality for the women who are protesting. They should be getting pension to account for that because they might not have made as much money for retirement even if they worked the same amount of hours. However, the women of today didn't do anything or have any social impediments that prevent them from working to an age that is equivalent to that of the age of men.

[–]Yogadude123XYZ 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"What was the High Court judgment?

Lord Justice Irwin and Mrs Justice Whipple dismissed the women’s case on all grounds. The judges said the Government was under no obligation to notify the women. They said there was no discrimination based on age and even if there had been it could be justified by the objective of achieving a fair and affordable pension system. They said the new laws in fact corrected historic discrimination against men by levelling the state pension age."

[–]AgincourtSalute 7 points8 points9 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

New precedent from the High Court: " historic discrimination against men "

It's official recognition that that men have been historically discriminated against, presumably by the 'Patriarchy'. How does this fit with the idea of male privilege?

[–][deleted] 20 points21 points22 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equality!!!!

[–]Communist-Badger3 13 points14 points15 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

If even if they weren't informed of the decision, they still shouldn't get out of it due to their gender.

[–]goodmod[S] 19 points20 points21 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

The decision to equalise retirement ages has actually been in the news for years. I've known about it for a long time, and I don't even live in the UK.

There's no excuse for any feminist in to UK to claim they were not informed.

[–]Aqedah 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It was first announced it would be increased way back in 1995 they've had OVER 20 YEARS of notice.

[–]Communist-Badger3 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Oh. I didn't know that. I just went off of what I read in the article. My apologies.

Same here. I live in a totally different country, and I knew about this also. Maybe don't live in a bubble where you think your gender makes things go your way at all times?

[–]Dnile1000BC 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equality looks like oppression from a position of privilege (like these women).

[–]Lion_amongst_gods 23 points24 points25 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I agree with the feminists. Having equal pension age is sexist. It should be raised above men's. There should be equal pension period. Take the average lifespan of men and women and subtract a constant number (the duration for which you will be paid pension) from each. That's the age at which pension payments should start.

Given that women live longer than men, you'll end up with the female pension age greater than the male.

Sounds unfair? Welcome to the world.

[–]butterman403 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

Wait the title sounds like there's legit discrimination goin on rn and the court just said no to equalize it. I'm reading this wrong, right?

[–]goodmod[S] 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

Nope, you're reading it right.

Feminists love discrimination when it favours women, and hate equality when it favours men.

[–]butterman403 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Wait so why are people in the comments giving them shit? They're protesting against a legitimate inequality

[–]MrPernicious 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

They're not protesting against inequality. They're protesting for inequality in their favour. They want to get the state pension at 60 even though men get it at 66. The judge has told them to fuck off and now we have all this screeching.

[–]butterman403 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Excuse me

what

[–]PanderjitSingh_k 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

The want to continue getting the state pension early. They have done from the start.

[–]MrPernicious 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah yeah, my bad. I thought I had put that they were protesting for continued inequality. Thanks for the correction.

[–]Chadwulf29 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah this could be more clear

[–]SharedRegime 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Thing is that wouldnt be equality if it favored men. What they hate is things that favor men in general regardless of the things that favor women.

[–]conradfart 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

To those who have enjoyed privilege equality often feels like discrimination.

[–]PeteyMax 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Shouldn't women retire later than men since they live longer on average?

[–]iongnil 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Earlier retirement for women was always nonsense. There was nothing to justify it, in fact if anything the evidence pointed to allowing men to retire at an earlier age because men's life expectancy is lower than women. So until recently not only did women retire earlier but they got to enjoy their retirement longer. Plus they received the benefits of being a pensioner earlier too like discounts, free bus pass etc.

The equalisation of pension ages had nothing to do with gender equality and was entirely due to reducing costs. Should have happened years ago.

I'm in my mid 50's by my age my mother had already retired as my father was significantly older than her and when he retired she decided she hated working anyway and retired too living off my father's pensions until her's paid out. Living the dream.

[–]Yipsta 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This was on the radio all day yesterday. There's certain cases where I start to feel sorry for women that are forced to work hard jobs until mid 60s rather than 60.

Then i realise men have been doing this for years already. A lot of these women will have already had large periods of their lives not working ie raising a family or living off the mans wage before it was normal for both husband and wife to work.

The excuses i heard are that women have elderly relatives and grandchildren to look after. Well boohoo, so do the men.

My mum is in a position where this affects her, but she started planning for it several years ago when it was started to be talked about and she's now in an OK position for it

[–]user_miki 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

with more women in the work force this was unavoidable. The state will not loose money for the women to stay at home while receiving pension earlier. With more demands from welfare state the government budget is shrinking. This is not about equality is about money.I think feminism is about money.

4million (women) x 50000 pounds is a lot of money.

[–]biff64gc 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I had a feeling they would try to use the gender pay gap myth to justify the change being sexist and I was right.

Campaigners argue that women born during the 1950s took time out of work to care for children, were paid less than men and could not save as much in occupational pensions, so the change had hit them harder.

The ONLY thing I will agree with them on is they were not officially notified of the change outside of some advertisements it sounds like, which with a change like this seems insane. It's kind of a big change that impacts retirement plans and they said they didn't need to notify anyone? I support the change but it was kind of a dick move to not send letters out.

[–]Tinktur 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Apparently this was all over the news for years, and has been coming since 1995. So the protestors were either already fully aware of it and are just attacking anything they can, or they've been living under rocks so large they form a mountian range.

[–]jp_mra 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

From the article, "I believe in equality. I believe we should work the same as men but the way it was done was wrong. They threw equality upon us when we were never equal."

[–]BigBadBoomchakka 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Lazy as hell... leaving work early, taking long lunches, wanting to retire early... parasites

[–]r8001 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Equality, cunts!! Like how it tastes, huh? Huh?!
