I just spent some time browsing MensLib because i really thought they were allies in the battle for mens rights, however, i have come to the conclution that they are not.

They’re trying to redefine masculinity and change the social hierarchy by placing kind, and empathetic men at the top, and telling competetive, and driven men that they are contributing to toxic masculinity.

The problem is that we can’t solve the crisis of masculinity by giving everyone a participation medal, and telling those who’re trying to compete that they’re making everyone feel bad.

Men compete all the time, in your friend group you compete in beeing the funniest, running the fastest, making the most money. Men push each other all the time to become the best versions of themselves. But we also help each other out, we pick each other up, and we make sure that at the end of the day we’re all friends.

Competition is a part of being a man, there’s no way denying that, and trying to pretend like it’s not is only going to make things worse. We need to approach this in a «how can we do this in a healthy and productive manner» instead of «since this for some dosen’t seem to work out, the system should be abolished». The goal can’t be that all men should succeed, but we should try to remove the barriers, and even the playingfield.

I have a plea to everyone who reads this. Don’t deny yourself your inner need be the best at something. True masculinity is realizing your fullest potential, and then using the power and resource you gain from that in a responsible and fair way.

We must dare to be dangerous, we must dare to test our limits, we must dare to be men.
