So, I have a group of incredibly intelligent female friends. They're all amazing at the work they do, they have in depth, difficult-to-master hobbies, and many of them are in STEM majors and doing very well at them. We often have deep, meaningful conversations, and they all have a sharp wit, avoid drama, are pleasant to be around, etc. We usually just hang around at one of the girl's apartments to watch movies and shoot the shit, check out a cool restaurant, go hiking at a nature trail. However, this past week, we went to a club.

And I swear, it was like someone flipped a switch.

A few shots deep into hard liquor, the conversation mainly consisted of the latest gossip, who broke up with who, who did what with what? Their conversation suddenly became the stereotypical "ditzy club girl" banter, and I was immediately put off, unsure of what to say or how to contribute other than making the odd quip now and then.

Instead of deciding AWALT, I realized something: TRP is mainly concerned with sexual strategy and getting laid, and as such, much of their extended interaction with women will be with the women who are at clubs or bars or places where it's acceptable or socially expected to talk about drivel.

I watched my group of very intelligent friends start talking about topics I consider rather silly once introduced to the right amount of alcohol and the right atmosphere. I don't think this shows they're all dumb bimbos, it just shows that everyone loves to talk about shallow things every once in a while, and atmospheres like clubs are places where it's acceptable to let it all out. A TRPer might look at this as an example that this is what women truly are like, in vito veritas and all that. But they have nothing to prove to me, a fellow female, no reason to put up an intelligent front 90% of the time.

So, perhaps this is contributing to TRP's possible selection bias? If the young, hung and full of come Millennials are constantly reinforcing ideas in TRP subs about women's shallowness because they're mostly inclined to interact with women in settings where they are mostly talking about banal crap, then that will obviously effect how the people who aren't saturated in that culture look at other women in general because that's what is partially perpetuated in the sub, in sort of a semi-circle jerk fashion, fueling other people's confirmation biases as well.

This isn't the whole story, of course, but it could be a possible reason for some of the more offensive things said about women's intelligence. I've noticed that the men who are married tend to take a more nuanced view of the situation and usually don't talk about how women are shallow and awful, although I've seen exceptions to this.

So, non-TRPers, do you think this might be a possible factor in perpetuating some of TRP's more "offensive" views on female intelligence? And RPers, do you think that maybe some selection bias could be at play in the culture of the RP sub that blows some of those stereotypes out of proportion?
