In other species the males are often the “pretty ones.” Why? Because in reality females are the choosers. Males pursue and compete for females. Men have few problems finding beautiful females because females work so hard to make themselves attractive to males. It would make more sense for males, the less choosy of the sexes, to put extra effort into their appearance, but until recently they didn’t."
